ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITIY
Black & McDonald's accounting team is growing! If you are an independent, enthusiastic, and driven professional searching for an opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. Duties are to execute the accounting functions of the Northern Ontario Region in accordance with Corporate Policies and Business Process Standards. Ensure production of accurate and timely financial statements and related reports. The Controller position is located in Ottawa.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Acts as a key resource and financial liaison with Corporate head office
General ledger accountability, budget, overhead and recoveries monitoring, expense review and cost control, and audit preparedness and auditor liaison
Accountable to ensure that all transactions are processed as per company procedures in an effort to ensure the journals, ledgers and other records, including payroll records, are properly maintained
Reviews with RVP and Divisional Managers periodic management reports, as required, to convey findings regarding analysis of targeted performance, and to help identify and rectify problem areas
Coordinate the implementation, maintenance, monitoring and administration of company policies, procedures, systems and controls
Work with the RVP and Divisional Managers on collection of accounts receivable to ensure timely receipts for work performed
Work with the Regional leaders to analyze and interpret trends requiring their attention, and preparation of findings and specific recommendations to Regional VP.
Represent the company professional and ethically in all business matters and concerns
Monitor cash flows and advise RVP and Divisional Managers on measures required remediation
Perform periodic review of job progress reports for variances and assumptions testing
Take reasonable steps to guard against possible theft of company property and assets
Foster a climate within Accounting and Administration where enthusiasm and morale results in achievement of departmental objectives
Provide leadership, and clearly communicate expectations to employees
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Project and Outlook
Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills
Ability to establish a strong working relationship with co-workers
COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
Accounting designation (CA/CMA/CGA/CPA) required.
Minimum 5 years experience in the capacity of controller
Ability to process full accounting cycle up to and including financial statement preparation
The ability to accurately and completely analyze Financial Statements, recognize problem areas, and provide solid successful solutions and corrective actions.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and delegate
An individual who is self-directed and has superior written and verbal communication skills
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Previous experience in the Construction industry would be an asset SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Project and Outlook
Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills
Ability to establish a strong working relationship with co-workers
