  Reference #: 4308311THE POSITIONThe Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Bureau of Construction and Materials, Materials Division, Laboratory Testing Section is seeking student interns to assist with and perform laboratory testing on various types of material samples collected from construction and maintenance projects

  DESCRIPTION OF WORKIn this position, there is an opportunity to gain practical experience in a range of laboratory testing programs for materials like steel, rebar, reflective materials, paint, concrete, aggregate products, asphalt, cement, and soils. You will be involved in sample logging, sample preparation, testing in both laboratory and field settings, and reporting the results. Additionally, you may be responsible for updating publications, performing data entry, and assisting with steering committees.

  Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.Compensation is credit based:Up to 48 credits - $20.3549-90 credits $20.7891-120 credits $21.22You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.  REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONSStudents who are interested in a PennDOT internship must meet all of the following requirements:Full-time enrollment in college (carrying 12 or more undergraduate credits, or 9 or more graduate credits) or Part-time enrollment in college (registered for a minimum of six credits).Enrolled part or full-time for the next semester by the start of the internship in an applicable major.In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).Must be at least 18 years of ageCompletion of the first year of a two-year associate degree or four-year bachelor's degree program.Special Requirement: Certain positions require a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.Additional Requirements:You must be able to perform essential job functions.Preferred Majors:Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.If you do not meet these requirements but are still interested in a summer position with PennDOT, please see the Student Summer Worker job posting to explore additional job opportunities.
