Starting Salary:
Computer Operator I: $18.65 - $23.77 hourly, depending on qualifications

NATURE OF WORK:
As a Traffic Management Center Operator, your primary responsibility is to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of traffic within the city by monitoring, responding to incidents, and implementing traffic management strategies. This role operates within a 24/7 environment, demanding a high level of attention to detail, quick decision-making skills, and effective communication abilities.
Duties include manning the computer operations call center on a periodic basis. Receives trouble calls from citizens; assists callers with their problems, recommends corrective action and/or refers calls to other technical sources; asks questions to determine problem origin, severity, and nature and refers and prioritizes calls accordingly. Work is performed under general supervision and evaluated through observation, results obtained and annual reviews.
Hours: 8:00 am to 6:00 pm with occasional weekend/nightshift coverage may be required.
Examples of Duties
Operate, monitor, and maintain system consoles and related equipment within the traffic management center.
Recognize and respond effectively to atypical conditions, taking corrective action as necessary to ensure optimal traffic flow.
Set up and execute job tasks efficiently, including obtaining and reporting traffic incidents and coordinating updates with other agencies.
Handle incoming calls from citizens, technicians, contractors, and others, addressing their concerns, recommending appropriate actions, and escalating issues when needed.
Use probing questions to identify the origin, severity, and nature of problems reported by callers, ensuring accurate prioritization and efficient resolution.
Notify management promptly about any equipment or system malfunctions to minimize disruptions in traffic management operations.
Maintain thorough and organized record-keeping procedures to ensure accurate documentation of incidents, actions taken, and relevant information.
Provide exceptional service and support to citizens during interactions, displaying strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Minimum Requirements
COMPUTER OPERATOR I: High School Graduate or equivalent plus one (1) year of experience in a computer center environment operating computers required; or a combination of education, training, and experience. An associates degree with advanced computer, communication and problem solving skills in a multi-tasking environment is highly preferred. Prior experience in traffic management operations, traffic control systems, or a related field is highly desirable. A valid Florida Driver's License is required.
COMPUTER OPERATOR II: Same as Computer Operator I, above, except requires (2) two years of experience as specified.
VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
