  PostedAugust 08, 2022The successful faculty candidate will design, develop, and implement the ongoing assessments and future creative strategies for understanding the performance of medical students. We seek thought-leader and professional educator with a Ph.D. or Ed.D., or equivalent experience, with an established track record of success in health professionals' education and assessment. Best candidates will be familiar with educational innovations and best practices for educational testing and evaluation and have demonstrated strong leadership, communication, presentation and facilitation skills. The faculty Assessment Specialist provides an essential function in monitoring, maintaining, and managing the student assessment components necessary for full accreditation with the LCME.The individual hired will be considered for a non-tenure track faculty appointment at the academic faculty rank and administrative title commensurate with qualifications and experience.Responsibilities and DutiesThe Assessment Specialist is responsible for providing support to the medical education team to design a comprehensive strategy for educational assessments that achieve the highest standards of excellence. This individual oversees the administration of medical school examinations and reporting results to students as well as to provide important assessment data to various committees within the medical school. The Assessment Specialist co-chairs the Student Assessment Committee, which provides direction and leadership on educational testing in the School of Medicine with an approach that includes preclinical activities (small groups, interprofessional activities, medical knowledge, and clinical skills) as well as clinical rotation activities (clerkship, clinical electives) including workplace-based assessments, teamwork and professional behavior. Current tools in use at the medical school include summative synthesis essay questions (SSEQ), multiple choice questions (MCQ), reflection essays, portfolios, clinical skills examinations (CSE), simulations, and direct observations. The Assessment Specialist will explore the current approach and consider novel tools to aid our competency-based medical education including consideration of entrusted professional activities (EPAs) to measure and track student performance and to ensure each student meets the graduation requirements.The Assessment Specialist works with the Office of Student Assessment within the Office of Curricular Affairs and will report to the Vice Dean for Medical Education as well as work closely with the Associate Dean of Curriculum. This individual will participate in and partner with the Office of Program Evaluation and CQI around the LCME- accreditation effort.Minimum QualificationsDoctoral degree in educational measurement, educational psychology, cognitive sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education or medical degree with experience in learner assessment.Demonstrated skills in evaluative sciences and student assessment techniques including performing qualitative and quantitative analysesExperience with applying software packages commonly used in psychometric work or research (e.g., SAS, SPSS)Demonstrated ability to train and mentor others.Ability to effectively present and summarize technical information orally and in writing to a variety of audiencesCommunication skills necessary to function effectively with project teams and external collaborators with guidance from more senior investigatorsAbility to contribute to research in learning, instruction, or assessmentHow to ApplyApplicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae (CV), and the names and contact information of three professional referees.
