  JOB SUMMARY

  The College Success Coach (Academic Advisor 1) in the Center for Access and Postsecondary Success (CAPS) assists undergraduate students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in their academic, personal, and career development to promote retention and graduation. Coaches provide individualized support through one-on-one and group sessions, connections to relevant campus and community resources, and coordination of student enrichment activities, while monitoring student progress.

  Reports to the Director for Student Success, Equity, and Inclusion.

  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  Builds trusting relationships to provide advising/coaching to an assigned roster of diverse students through their transition to and through the University.Proactively provides personalized, constructive, engaging, motivating, and informative holistic student support. Works to remove roadblocks to students' success and ability to navigate their college experiences. Promotes a positive and engaged experience for transitioning and continuing students in an effort to increase retention and graduation.Supports, guides, and empowers students through their college experience to enhance their capacity for continued success and development of skills necessary to be advocates for themselves. Helps students build life and leadership skills, create balance, manage stress, boost self-confidence, build advocacy skills, and develop goals for the future.Promotes student development by connecting students to departmental, University, and community resources to help them navigate academic, personal, and social difficulties that could affect their persistence and graduation.Uses the Universitys advising and reporting systems to maintain information regarding student appointments, alerts, progress surveys, and other necessary information regarding student outreach, engagement, and recommendations while adhering to data integrity and reporting standards.Helps students develop plans to address educational needs, promote social and out-of-classroom engagement, community-building, personal wellness, and professional development. Refers students to other student success services and resources as appropriate.Assists with and actively participates in summer programming, orientation activities, and fall opening efforts to support student transition, retention, and graduation. Reviews and makes recommendations regarding academic warning, probation, or dismissal.Serves as an instructor for the First Year Experience (FYE) course.Performs related work as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  Bachelors degree in a related field and three years of position-related experience in advising and/or counseling students or in providing academic support, OR advanced degree in a related field and one year of related experience in advising and/or counseling students or in providing academic support.Ability and knowledge to support undergraduate students, including first-generation college students and students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds.Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team setting.Ability to build rapport with students, families, and University partners.Ability to work on occasional nights and weekends and travel occasionally for work purposes.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  Experience serving as an academic success coach or similar position focused on student persistence.Advanced degree in higher education, counseling, or related discipline.Advising experience in postsecondary/higher education institution(s).Experience in the interpretation of academic policies, regulations, and procedures.Experience teaching or conducting workshops.APPOINTMENT TERMS

  This is a full-time, end-dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding. The University offers a comp titive salary, outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment.The starting salary is $56,102.
