　　Job Description

　　Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

　　Responsible for providing a safe and healthy environment for students, employees and visitors. The incumbent provides sworn law enforcement protection on campus. Maintains high visibility on school property to prevent and respond to crimes against College property, students and personnel.

　　Essential Job Functions

　　Patrols campus and responds to calls when requested Enforces Virginia Statutes Follows up on certain incidents/investigations with applicable Police departments Provides additional protection for the students Performs other duties as assigned

　　Employment Qualifications Must be a Certified Law Enforcement Officer with a minimum of one (1) year experience Must have certified completion of an approved police training academy and be a sworn law enforcement officer with police powers in the applicable county. Knowledge of law enforcement procedures Skill and ability to follow-up with investigations Ability to make law enforcement related decisions Ability to communicate effectively Ability to work effectively with people in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments.

　　The off-duty police officer shall be outfitted, ready, and capable of carrying out all tasks and rendering quality service while positioned outside the building exposed to all forms of weather, including seasonal temperatures, above normal warm and cold temperatures, rain, snow, and sleet.
