Position Information
St. Augustine Preparatory Academy is seeking a candidate to serve as a full-time Assistant Director of College and Career with a strong emphasis on team management. This pivotal role involves leading the day-to-day operations of the College & Career Department and overseeing a team of K4-12 College & Career Advisors, ensuring the delivery of high-quality guidance to students and families navigating postsecondary pathways and opportunities. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a solid background in higher education, and a passion for mentoring and developing a team of advisors.
Reporting Structures: The Assistant Director of College and Career will report to the Director of College and Career.
Job Description
This role presents an exciting opportunity to inspire and manage a team of College & Career Advisors, playing a crucial role in shaping students' futures and fostering a supportive environment for both the team and the students they serve. We are looking for someone with experience in the following areas:
Team Management: Manage a team of college advisors, providing mentorship, guidance, and support. Foster a collaborative and empowering work environment that encourages professional growth and teamwork.
Workflow Management: Coordinate and oversee the daily operations of the advising team, ensuring efficient workflow, proper delegation and documentation, and adherence to deadlines.
Training and Development: In collaboration with the Director of College & Career, develop and implement professional development to equip advisors with the necessary knowledge and skills in college admissions, counseling techniques, and best practices. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.
Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of advising services by conducting regular quality assessments, monitoring advisor interactions, and providing guidance to enhance advising techniques and strategies.
Strategic Planning: In collaboration with the Director of College & Career, develop long-term strategies for the College & Career Department, including initiatives to improve student outcomes, expand services, and adapt to changing educational landscapes.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with school administration, teachers, and external partners to foster strong relationships and ensure alignment of advising services with school goals and values.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Oversee the collection and analysis of data related to advising activities, student outcomes, and program effectiveness. Prepare comprehensive reports for senior management and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Higher Education Administration or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
Minimum of 3 years of experience in college advising, admissions, or counseling, with at least 1 year in a leadership or management role
Proven track record of successfully managing and developing teams
Strong understanding of college admissions processes, financial aid, and career counseling, experience advising first generation students and their families
Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; bilingual/Spanish proficiency a plus
Proficiency in Google Suite
Willingness to learn new skills/processes and to be flexible
Ability to strategize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects effectively
Collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with a focus on fostering a supportive and growth-oriented team culture
Participating member in a local Church
