Cogeneration Superintendent – Lincoln, NE
This is a full-time, exempt position.
Shift : Mostly weekdays
REPORTS TO: Plant Manager
SUPERVISES: 4-6 salaried employees, 5-7 hourly employees, and 1-10 contractors
EDUCATION OR TRAINING PREFFERRED:
B.S. Engineering degree or equivalent technical experience for power plant operation and maintenance
Safety Training
Experience with +/ or working knowledge of CMMS
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
3-5 years of management and leadership experience
Excellent safety record and awareness
Previous continuous process experience
SKILLS PREFERRED:
Ability to work on multiple tasks

BASIC FUNCTION: Manage the overall operations of a small, coal/gas-fired Cogeneration plant
DESIRED QUALITIES : Demonstrated ability to produce results, strong people skills, the attitude that accidents are preventable, strong knowledge of area operations, independence, demonstrated leadership ability, self-motivated, action oriented, and operating management experience (strategic long term planning, budgeting, capital planning and efficiency optimization). Applicants must have the aptitude and skillset necessary to perform mechanical system troubleshooting, solve process problems, resolve conflict, complete reports, and influence safe work practices upon fellow employees.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:
Ensure focus on regular and consistent employee training, safety, quality, and area housekeeping.
Review production, quality, and maintenance reports and statistics to direct/schedule maintenance activities.
Train and direct hourly and contract employees and issue applicable safety and work permits.
Be able to diagnose issues (or be point of contact for outside expert) for 4 main areas of operation:
water treatment (lab analysis and reverse osmosis and ion exchange and heat exchange and cooling tower),
bulk solids handling (coal and ash, mechanically and pneumatically conveyed)
steam production and distribution (both coal and gas boilers),
electrical production and distribution (turbine/generator and transformers and circuit breakers), and
various auxiliary equipment (e.g. air compressors, fire suppression systems, etc.)
Directly assist as necessary with operations, inspections, and electrical and mechanical maintenance.
With training, operate heavy equipment including overhead cranes, payloaders, forklifts, and skidsteers.
Schedule deliveries/removals and consumption of power, raw materials, and waste products.
Order and receive all spare parts and consumables via various systems.
Research, plan, develop, and implement new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
Monitor and develop production plans and discuss associated equipment needs and change needed with operation, maintenance, and engineering personnel.
Ensure that the plant complies with all environmental and safety regulations.
Focus on long-term process optimization, cost control, product costing, employee development, accident elimination and management-of-change.
Establish goals and performance measures for the Cogeneration plant and provide consistent feedback.
Identify significant area trends and their respective cause and effect relationships.
Empower employees to develop ideas for operational, efficiency, and safety improvement(s).
Support and strongly encourage troubleshooting efforts as a part of “what we do”.
Celebrate and share “wins” achieved by Cogeneration personnel.
Develop a well-trained, efficient, and safety-conscious team.
Assemble and conduct meetings with supervisors and employees, as needed.
Ensure that production-limiting factors and any reoccurring problems are addressed.
Interact with peers in Lincoln to achieve plant objectives and to provide operational stability.
Monitor maintenance planning to ensure reliable and efficient operations.
Lead continuous improvement efforts by working with all team members to determine priorities.
Provide input for employee quarterly reviews of Cogeneration employees.
Serve as primary contact for area vendors, suppliers, and consultants.
Share on-call duties with other supervision team members.
Participate in the development of standard operating and emergency procedures for area.
Develop short- and long-term plans for the Cogeneration plant and its utility infrastructure.
