Job Summary: Assists in the administration and enforcement of state and local codes to promote and maintain the safety, health, and well-being of the residents, businesses, properties and neighborhoods in the City. Scope of Responsibility: Responsible for residential and commercial/industrial exterior property inspections to ensure compliance with the Fridley City Code, including but not limited to: zoning, nuisance, inoperable vehicles, sign code, garbage, dumping, building exterior maintenance, outdoor storage, livestock permits, long grass/weeds, etc. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Coordinates code enforcement program and case management process. a. Accepts and responds to complaints. b. Surveys properties for code compliance, conducts field inspections, and meets with property owners. c. Enters data into the online complaint tracking system. d. Issue notifications and citations. e. Documents and monitors compliance schedules. f. Coordinates work with other departments as appropriate. g. Testifies in court if necessary. 2. Provides public education; interprets and explains the requirements of the laws, codes, and ordinances; and designs and develops educational programs. 3. Prepares and maintains correspondence, files, records, reports, photos, etc. 4. Coordinate nuisance abatements. a. Notifies property owners and others as appropriate. b. Solicits bids and contracts with subcontractors. c. Monitors abatements. d. Documents the abatement process. e. Processes invoices for payment. f. Provides information for assessments. g. Conducts follow-up inspections. 5. Prepares and presents reports, research, data, etc., to the City Council, commissions, and homeowner or neighborhood associations. 6. Collaborates with other department staff to report violations, and provide information, and recommendations for resolution. 7. Assists in performing rental housing inspections. 8. Prepares and recommends changes or additions to ordinances and City Code. 9. Assists with overseeing and training seasonal code enforcement interns. 10. Responsible for the continued coordination and integration of the Community Development software. 11. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
