SUMMARY: Responsible for the laser welding of steel and aluminum-based materials per the specifications defined on the job order, producing high quality products and services. Operations include CNC laser programming, CNC laser setup and preventative maintenance to support the operation of the laser and CNC equipment at an optimum efficiency. Tube laser operator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational duties include set up and operation of CNC equipment using advanced machine parameters and programming, material identification to facilitate selection and transport from inventory to processing, properly identify remaining raw material for return to inventory location and proper disposal of scrap. Read and interpret blueprints/drawings, tolerances, specifications, and setup sheets.Perform inspections with micrometers, calipers and other measuring devices. Maintain efficient operation of a numerically controlled laser welding machine by optimizing the capabilities of the machine and maximizing the utilization of the materials consumed.Responsible for welding various traction surface products as defined by the job order.Follow all operating procedures, process instructions, and safety procedures.Coordinate and maintain regular communication with the supervisor and team, relay any necessary changes to setup, processing, and program equipment. Responsible for the verification of welding accuracy while minimizing the effects of material waste and to optimize production quality and efficiency.Accurately complete necessary paperwork to process the order, manage inventory, overall job cost, and time sheets.Confirm order requirements are met, including the proper selection of job priorities, material, gas flows, speed, power settings and program loading.Recognize and report all defects to supervisor.Perform regular predictive maintenance of the equipment to ensure maximum up-time and maintain the safe operation of the equipment.Keep personal and common work areas clean and organized.Perform other duties and cross-train as assigned by supervision.EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND PROFICIENCIES: A High School diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Previous experience with fabrication, crane operation, metal processing, and material handling equipment required. Preferred prior experience of 1 or more years with steel or aluminum manufacturer. The candidate must be able to read and interpret documents such as travelers, procedures and instructions and be able to write short notes or memos. Strong math skills are required: Knowledge of both metric and inch measuring systems and ability to use and care for precision measuring equipment and tools such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other tools and gauges.
