  This position exists to provide direct mental health and substance use services to and management of incarcerated individuals on the Mental Health Unit (MHU), but also as needed throughout the rest of MCF-OPH. Incarcerated individuals with the most acute mental health conditions are placed on the MHU. Many of the incarcerated individuals have multiple mental health and/or cognitive issues and frequently require court involvement. Provide direct licensed independent clinical mental health and substance use services to incarcerated individuals on the MHU and at MCF-OPH. The incumbent can perform assessments, including diagnostic assessments, therapeutic interventions, and treatment planning of incarcerated individuals. The incumbent consults and advises on program development and is assigned more complex clinical cases.

  This position has direct contact with offenders in a Minnesota Correctional Facility Oak Park Heights. Working intermittent holidays may be required with appropriate advance notice

  Minimum Qualifications

  LICENSURE:

  Current Minnesota licensure as a Mental Health Professional (e.g. LICSW, LP, LPCC, and LMFT) as defined by MS 245.462 subd. 18, clause 1-6.PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLICANTS INVITED TO INTERVIEW WILL BE ASKED TO PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION OF LICENSURE AT THE TIME OF INTERVIEW.

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  Advanced psychotherapeutic treatment and psychoeducational strategies for antisocial and criminal behavioral patterns and psychological, psychiatric, educational/vocational, and interpersonal issues sufficient to evaluate, treat and oversee the treatment of incarcerated individuals’ mental health, co-occurring, compulsive, addictive, sexual offending, violent and/or otherwise maladaptive behavior.

  Clinical supervision concepts and practices sufficient to provide effective clinical consultation, leadership and evaluation to unlicensed behavioral health practitioners, license-seeking staff and interns, and other assigned staff.

  Knowledge of statutes, rules, policies, laws, court orders, ethical guidelines and standards, and practices related to the provision of behavioral health services in correctional facilities sufficient to develop, implement, administer and oversee appropriate behavioral health evaluation and treatment programming for incarcerated individuals in secured facilities.

  Ability to use the full range of diagnostics in the current DSM (i.e., Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) sufficient to develop appropriate evaluations of incarcerated individuals’ behavioral health and substance use issues.

  The ability to development and use of advanced therapeutic interventions sufficient to effectively provide and oversee the treatment of incarcerated individuals with complex and co-occurring behavioral health issues.

  Correctional philosophy and practices, including the integration of security procedures, security equipment and knowledge of criminal behavior with behavioral health evaluation and treatment in a state correctional facility, sufficient to develop and implement safe and appropriate intervention strategies.

  Crisis intervention theory and techniques sufficient to meet the needs of the Incarcerated Person population and serve as an expert resource for other behavioral health professionals.

  Skills in verbal and written communication, including proficient electronic documentation skills.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Current licensure as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC)

  Mental Health Professional board approved clinical supervisor.

  Experience working in a correctional/secured environment.

  Experience providing services to clients diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI).

  Experience with the civil commitment process. Experience treating clients with co-occurring disorders.

  Knowledge of psychological testing and report writing.

  Experience providing clinical supervision to other behavioral health staff.

  Physical Requirements

This position will require Tuberculosis screening prior to hire.

  Additional Requirements

  The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy.

  Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
