  Position Summary

  The Clinical Coordinator III Physician Assistant will work in the Center for Liver Disease & Transplantation within the Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation in the Department of Surgery. The position will work under the direction of the Surgical Director of Liver Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery, in collaboration with attending surgical and medical staff, data managers, out-patient nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers and financial coordinators. May assist medical staff with pre, intra- and post-operative surgical activities and research projects in assigned area.

  Responsibilities

  Coordinate overall medical and surgical management of patients being evaluated and treated by the liver program.Conduct new evaluations and consultations.Provide education about liver disease and transplantation for patients and medical center staff.Management of immunosuppressant and regulation of medications in response to laboratory results.Telephone medical advice, interaction with both patients and primary physicians.Participate in outpatient on-call responsibilities in rotation with other NPs, PA and physicians within the program. May provide pre-surgical patient care including taking extensive patient histories, giving general physicals, and submitting information to physician for diagnosis and writing pre-operative orders.Coordinate communication with referring providers, share patient status updates and clinical documentation as appropriate.May serve as 1st or 2nd assistant in assigned area. Scrubs, starts IV's, monitors equipment and alerts surgeon of changes in patient's condition, and may close skin after operation. Acts as liaison between surgeon and surgical staff throughout the operation.Attends to the patient in the Recovery Room or Intensive Care Unit. May provide post-operative instructions to patients.Performs minor surgery under direct supervision. Performs clinical procedures under the direction and supervision of the responsible physician such as venipuncture, arteriopuncture and electrocardiogram. May administer intravenous medications, fluids, blood and blood components, and local infiltrative anesthetic. May administer injections I.M., subcutaneous and intradermal. May perform intradermal skin tests, nastrogastic intubation and insertion of urinary catheters. May cleanse and debride wounds.Provides follow-up care including appropriate adjustment of medications for patients in accordance with established protocols or specific instructions from the responsible physician. Orders oral and parental medications for patients under the care of the supervising physician.Participation in patient care and education meetings and inpatient rounds.Assist in prior authorizations for medications and radiology testing. Minimum Qualifications

  Physician Assistants: Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited or New York State Education Department approved PA education program.PA - 5 years of related experienceCurrent NYS PA License and NCCPA Board Certification.BLS CertificationDEA CertificationOther Requirements

  Proficiency with technology and social media platforms.Effective interpersonal and communication skills required.Intermediate to advanced level MS Office skills, experience with EMR.
