Job Summary
Working at the UMass Amherst campus, serve as the SONA, Compliance and Human Subject Administrator for Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences (PBS). Develop Human Subjects participant recruitment through outreach within department and larger local area community. Coordinate Ethics Training. Track labs for personnel compliance of required training and building and lab access. Provide administrative support to the department.
Essential Functions
Work with the PBS Office Manager/Assistant to the Chair to meet goals and work deadlines and in communication with the Associate Chair for Research.
SONA & HS RECRUITMENT
Serve as administrator for Department Human Subjects (HS) and SONA system for recruitment for PBS research studies, including the following duties:
Work with PBS department researchers to help identify opportunities and create relationships within Amherst and localized surrounding area communities targeted for human subject studies.
Develop and implement outreach proposals in collaboration with instructors and researchers.
Develop education, coordinate information, and engage the broader community and relevant agencies to encourage participation in human subject studies.
Work with instructors and researchers to encourage undergraduate research participation, and ensure that it is an educational experience, with an eye towards diversity, equity and inclusion. Attend classes and events to promote research opportunities and encourage student participation.
Work with the Associate Chair for Research, the Human Research Protection Office and central administration on department human subject procedures and interactions with the IRB. Serve as the department contact person for questions concerning human subjects’ research, SONA and department Human Subjects policies. Maintain current knowledge of related regulations to ensure continued compliance.
Administrator for the department’s online SONA system for undergraduates for research studies.
Manage prescreen for Human Subjects – gathering questions, submitting prescreen study to IRB, coordinating setting up survey in Qualtrics and distributing data.
Run reports as necessary of human subject participation for faculty for course credit. Send instructors information required for their syllabi and review course syllabi for inclusion of SONA related requirements.
Attends Human Subjects department Research Committees meetings when requested and handle committee requests for information or materials.
COMPLIANCE
Serve as administrator for compliance of lab and research trainings, including the following duties:
Coordinate and oversee the PBS human subject student ethics training instructors, arranges for compensation for instructors, ensure continuity of content, schedule and manage the ethics training sessions.
Maintain Lab Personnel forms, monitor department’s labs compliance of required training (e.g., safety training, ethics training, etc.), lab access, and current SONA studies and communicate compliance with IRB.
Create and distribute lab compliance letters for the Human Research Protection Office (HRPO).
Maintain UMass Department key inventory, distribute and receive process, building and lab keys. Activate and deactivate key cards through C-Cure.
Process Visitor /Volunteer forms, assuring inclusion on lab personnel forms, completion of relevant training, and sending NENS requests to appropriate person.
Other Functions

Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.
Provide administrative support to the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences as needed such as copying exams, distributing mail, etc.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
At least three (3) years' of office experience.
Knowledge of computer word processing systems: Word and Excel.
Ability to work independently to organize multiple tasks and set priorities for action, take initiative, be creative, and operate with self-direction in a fast-paced office environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships with a diverse population of staff and students.
Ability to organize and prioritize goals; ability to collaborate well to formulate plans and objectives in accordance with overall college goals; ability to identify and implement process improvements.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to set and meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
College degree in a Social or a Natural Science.
Previous experience in public speaking.
Previous experience in an academic environment.
Previous experience with IRB and Human Subject recruitment.

Typical office environment.
Requires some face-to-face interaction for recruitment activities.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday; 9:00am – 5:00pm.
