Job Description:
Summary:The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teamsproviding project and/or task management and technical support primarily forBarr's mining clients in addition to other clients in markets such as heavyindustry and power generation. Responsibilities are expected to includeleading technical analyses related to water balance modeling; hydrologic andhydraulic analyses and engineering studies; interacting with, coordinatingwith, and potentially leading or managing multi-disciplinary projectteams; mentoring junior staff through project work; advising clients onmine water management strategies through completion of alternativesanalyses; providing environmental consulting services; writing technicalreports; and performing business development likely through conferencepresentations and writing proposals. Work may involve short-term,out-of-town assignments such as site visits.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering
8 or more years of related work experience with a focus on mining and minewater management
Professional Engineer (PE) certification or eligibility for immediatecertification
Experience working with hydrologic, hydraulic, and water qualitymethods, modeling tools, and software such as GoldSim, HEC-RAS,HEC-HMS, XPSWMM/PCSWMM, HSPF, HydroCAD, MS Excel, or the MIKE Suite of tools
Familiarity with publicly available data sets to support hydrologic analysessuch as USGS gage data in the USA, Hydrometric stations in Canada, climatedata from NWS, Environment Canada, or other gages
Experience advising clients on mine water management strategies andalternatives analysis
Developed skills in probabilistic analysis or modeling, uncertaintyanalyses, and/or Monte Carlo analyses to inform and complete risk assessments
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Proven task or project management skills including quality management
Willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energyworking environment that encourages self-initiative
Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need forsponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications:
More than 10 years of experience working on projects directly related to jobresponsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or mining orindustrial worksite
Master's degree or PhD degree in civil or environmental engineering
Strong relationships with clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoingrelationships and maintain a high level of client service
Examples of providing water resources engineering to support permitting andcompliance
Experience with mine closure and reclamation planning such as assessingalternatives and developing a plan, including community involvement
Expertise with one or more of the following: data analysis,visualization, and presentation; hydraulic structure (outlet works)analysis and design; risk-informed decision making for alternativedevelopment and selection; climate change analysis for mine water managementdecision making; water recovery and re-use; cost-benefit assessments;due diligence services (e.g., review boards) for water management projects
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid workarrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a homeoffice. This position can be based out of the following Barr offices Denver,Colorado; Duluth, Hibbing, or Minneapolis, Minnesota; Bismarck,North Dakota, or Salt Lake City, Utah.
NOTE:Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of constructionsites and may require entering and working in facilities that include limitedaccessibility moving machinery, and other conditions typical ofindustrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposalsites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandatedphysical exam may be required. If any of these work types presentthemselves, safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked toparticipate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
