Civil Designer:
General Requirements:
Provides expertise for the completion of capital and/or maintenance projects in an existing plant setting. Will work within Civil Design discipline to ensure safe, economical, constructible, and maintainable designs.
Technical:
Has a thorough knowledge and understanding of Civil/Structural Design, Roads, Railroads, Environmental, Site Work, Concrete Design, Foundations, Buildings, Drainage, etc. Familiar with industry best practices related to design standards, safety regulations and become knowledgeable with the plant's EMETL (Electronic Most Effective Technology) practices, the plant's Global/Site Safety Standards, LPP (Loss Prevention Principles).
Computer Competency Skills:
Has a high competence level of MicroStation Connect, S3D Modeling and an intermediate level of competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, PDF/Bluebeam.
Organizational:
Has the ability to create complex detailed design drawings and documentation used for construction bid/design packages and for inquiring/ordering Civil items (survey, laser scan, structural steel, etc.).
Personal:
Must be able to work within a project team environment and CEC workshare.
Must be able to exchange ideas and information one-on-one and in a group setting.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Civil Designer is responsible for all Civil design requirements on single or multi-discipline projects.
Develops scope, cost estimates, design strategy for Civil projects.
Applies engineering principles and standards in design.
Able to develop lean package concepts for general tasks as required.
Evaluates steel fabrication and equipment drawings to assure compliance with specifications.
Designs will include both new installations and modernization of existing facilities.
Collaborates with other multi-discipline designers, plant personnel, and vendors to accomplish Civil/Structural design.
Evaluates the plant's design standards for correctness, applicability, and relevance to Civil/Structural installations.
Provides engineering field support on design and construction projects when required.
Reviews and checks inner discipline bid/construction packages prepared for issue.
Attends and participates in different stages of project team meetings.
Specific Knowledge and Skills:
Civil/Structural design, bid package development, and Civil Computer Design Tools.
Has the ability to plan and organize work effectively while working on several projects simultaneously.
Has good knowledge and understanding of relevant Corporate Safety and Loss Prevention Principles.
Have effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be a self-starter with high initiative.
Has the ability to independently perform basic calculations (volume, soil cut and fill quantities, etc.)
Project Execution Strategy
Has the ability to understand and use many different types of engineering documentation (AISC, ACI, OSHA, etc.)
Education/Experience:
Associates of Applied Science in engineering drafting and design or equivalent training and experience.
10 to 15 years of design experience in the Civil/Structural field.
Other Considerations:
The individual shall be motivated with the experience and ability to co-lead projects in the Civil discipline with minimal direct supervision.
The individual must be physically able to do fieldwork in an operating chemical plant, which includes taking field measurements, climbing stairs and ladders.
Work in a petrochemical environment where personal protective equipment, safety harness will be required for fieldwork.
Able to travel within the Gulf Coast Area (Texas/Louisiana) to work on projects at other plant facilities.
