Bargaining unit consideration begins on January 11, 2024 and ends on January 18, 2024. KAML Circulation Desk Supervisors provide direct service to library users and supervise circulation desk student workers. Supervisors of student workers are responsible for hiring, training, assigning work, and evaluating student workers. This position directly supervises 5-10 students. As a circulation desk supervisor, the person in this role is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the desk service, providing direct service to library users, monitoring the attendance and overseeing the work of student workers, and responding to reported safety and security issues. The person in this position is assigned about 20 hours/week as the designated circulation desk supervisor. During the academic year the circulation desk supervisor will work some evening shifts and some weekend shifts. Course Reserves Specialist responsibilities include adding, processing, and maintaining physical and electronic course reserves in Alma, Leganto, and Canvas for use by UMD students and faculty. The person in this position may be assigned minor, non-recurring duties or tasks that change frequently and don't consume more than 10% of a regular 40-hour work week. These tasks will be related to the general framework of the employee's duties, as described below. Access & Collection Services Team (ACST) is responsible for acquisitions, library facilities oversight and security, cataloging, circulation, course reserves, managing print and electronic materials, resource sharing, and stacks maintenance. This is a third level technical library position which typically requires a thorough working knowledge of methods and practices in one or more functional areas of library operations and services. Employees at this level may have a general responsibility for a library unit or a specialization within a unit, and will typically work with considerable independence from direct supervision. Circulation Supervisor (50%) Hire student workers following library and campus practices, procedures, and policies Train student workers. Inform each student of their responsibilities and standards of behavior expected from all Access & Collection Services employees. Assist the student in developing skills and learning procedures necessary to perform assigned tasks. Work cooperatively with other Circulation Supervisors to develop training and procedural materials. Verify the accuracy of your student worker's timesheets and approve time. Evaluate student workers. Serve as the circulation desk supervisor in charge Supervise and manage all circulation desk student workers during assigned desk supervisor shifts. Monitor staffing to assure adequate desk coverage. Verify the arrival and departure of scheduled student workers. Approve and record student worker schedule changes. Confirm student workers select appropriate tasks. Modify task priorities in response to special situations. Provide procedural review whenever needed. Model appropriate customer service interactions. Report job performance problems to student workers' direct supervisor. Take immediate corrective and/or disciplinary action with student workers under their direct supervision. Provide input to student workers' performance evaluations as requested. Provide customer service Perform assigned building duties Open and/or close and secure the building according to established procedures. Report basic building maintenance needs using the established procedures. Troubleshoot problems with equipment and computers for Access & Collection Services staff, the circulation area, and public use equipment including guest computers, audiovisual equipment, scanners, and microform reader/printers. Report unresolved problems to approp iate staff or vendors. Perform assigned safety and security duties Maintain knowledge of standard University and Library emergency and disaster policies and procedures. Act as the building evacuation coordinator when necessary. Call emergency personnel (police, ambulance, and/or fire) when necessary. Enforce Library policies. Course Reserves Specialist (40%) Add and remove physical and digital materials from the course reserve system (Leganto) following established standards, procedures, and policies. Review and revise course reserve standards, procedures, and policies. Collaborate with faculty to add and update Library Course Materials to reflect assigned readings, including resources offered by the library as part of the course content initiative. Promote course reserves services via outreach to faculty and instructors. Collaborate with library acquisitions, e-resources, cataloging, and web development staff on the library's course content initiative to purchase assigned e-textbooks and make them usable in Canvas. Troubleshoot access issues and course rollover issues within Leganto and Alma, collaborating with Twin Cities colleagues to communicate UMD's needs. Consult on course reserves web presence on the library site. Communicate basic copyright information to faculty, staff, and students. Maintain online procedures manual for library staff. Serve as UMD's representative on the Alma Leganto Operations Group (UMN system wide operations group). Serve as local subject area expert and keep stakeholders apprised of release notes and interface changes. Other duties as assigned (10%) Will include: ACST project work, which may include the following: Stacks maintenance Weeding projects Inventory Supervision Participates in the hiring, training, performance evaluation, discipline, and determination of work assignments for subordinates. May serve as a lead worker (e.g., assign, schedule, direct work) of University staff but are not PELRA supervisors. May supervise student employees. Qualifications Required Qualifications Five years of relevant library experience. College education can be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to three years.
