The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the position of Chief Ranger for the State House Security Program, Program Manager VI. /Adjusted salary range: $107,000.00 to $130,521.50/ The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) State House Security Program (SHSP) Chief Ranger is responsible for administration and management of the State House Ranger Security Program, including oversight of security standards and operations (in accordance with the DCR Bureau of Rangers Services standards), hiring, training, and scheduling. The SHSP Chief Ranger reports directly to DCR Commissioner and or Deputy Commissioner of Operations. The SHSP works closely with the Bureau of the State House (BSH) Director of State House Security and staff, Massachusetts State Police (MSP), the House and Senate Business Offices, House and Senate Court Officers, and the BSH Superintendent and staff. The SHSP Chief Ranger must be available to respond to the State House for emergencies or to cover critical staffing needs 24/7. The SHSP Chief Ranger is responsible to manage and partner with the MA State Police and the Director of State House Security to improve the Department’s State House Security Program. The SHSP Chief Ranger will be required to implement new (and revise existing) policies, protocols and procedures for the State House Security Program. Preferred Qualifications: The SHSP Chief Ranger should have at least (A) five years of full-time supervisory or managerial experience in public administration, security or law enforcement. The SHSP Chief Ranger should have a BA/BS in a relevant field; The SHSP Chief Ranger should have excellent communication skills, demonstrated leadership experience, and a background public safety, security or law enforcement. The SHSP Chief Ranger must have experience with emergency management and special events operations. The Chief must have strong management skills to manage and motivate staff. Experience managing a union work force is preferred. The incumbent must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office and be capable of preparing, analyzing and evaluating data, reports, correspondence and other information related to the duties of the position. The Chief must be available for after-hours calls and communications for emergencies 24/7. During Special Events and or Emergency Management operations, the incumbent must be capable of working in a fast pace, high pressure environment. Selected candidates will be trained in National Incident Management System (NIMS) incident command (specifically completion of NIMS 700, 800, and IS 100, 200, 906, & 907); 1stAid, AED and CPR. Successful candidates without such training will be expected to complete said training within 6 months of hire. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) five (5) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management of which (B) at least one (1) year must have been in a project management, supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required (A) experience. II. A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required (A) experience. III. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required (A) experience. IV.
