L3Harris Corporation is see king an Optical Chief Systems Engineer (CSE) with electro-optical space domain awareness experience to join our team. The CSE will provide engineering oversight in support of United State Space Force (USSF) ground-based Space Domain Awareness optical sensor systems. The oversight will be primarily for the Space Surveillance Telescope (SST) . The CSE directly supports the Program Manager and acts as the technical interface to the customer. Additionally, the CSE leads a multi-discipline product line that supports maintenance and upgrades of hardware (telescope, sensors, architecture/infrastructure), communications, cyber, and image processing and mission softwar e. The ideal candidate will have experience in the space surveillance domain and have a good understanding of the systems and algorithmic processes utilized to detect and track space objects with ground-based sensors
Essential Functions:
Manage technical subject matter experts through regular interactions, development of technical documentation and coordinating design review activities
Interact with engineering teams and customer to identify problems, perform failure analysis to root cause, and develop solutions to correct deficiencies
Prepare and brief technical presentations at informal and formal meetings
Support the development of technological concepts which improve system performance and mission capabilities
Use modeling and simulation analyses to support design validation and mission benefit analyses
Perform research, studies, and analyses in support of Optical Telescope projects
Contribute to the development of new principles and concepts to enhance mission operations
Analyze life cycle cost impacts of design alternatives
Provide technical peer review of key deliverables and milestones
Perform functional analysis, detailed trade studies and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
Familiarity with electro-optical sensors used to detect and track space objects
Active DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
Active TS clearance
Experience with requirements analysis and design within projects
3 years of exp erience in a technical leadership role
Direct experience with electro-optical system architectures
Familiarity with performing physics-based system modeling, analysis, and algorithm development
Experience performing Systems Engineering processes and tasks
Experience writing specifications, design, ConOps, and Interface Control Documents
Strong coordination and organization skills with a focus on details
Communication and excellent presentation skills is a must
Advanced degree
Experience supporting DoD/government customers a plus
Familiarity with Agile development principles
Familiarity with space mission operations
Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python and MATLAB to analyze data
Flexibility to travel for customer purposes, with possible foreign travel
Experience in MBSE/SysML modeling
Familiarity with DOORS or equivalent requirements management software
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $106,500- $197,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
