General Information
James Madison University (
JMU), a Division I Member of the
NCAA and Sun Belt Conference , is seeking a Chief Medical Officer/Head Team Physician reporting to the Athletic Director to begin as soon as possible. This position is a full-time, 12-month position with a full comprehensive benefits package.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee all medical services provided to James Madison University student-athletes. Collaborate with and assist the Sports PA and affiliate physicians in providing evidence-based medical services. Provide the medical management and coordination of care of medical conditions, illnesses, and injuries. Services include but not limited to;
General primary careNon-operative orthopedic careMental healthConcussion managementWomen's health, female athlete triad/REDS,Minor proceduresSubstance abuse education.Services will be provided daily at the on campusJMU Sports Medicine Physicians' Clinic.Educate and counsel student-athletes regarding medical conditions that could affect their safety and performance. Communicate in a supportive and comprehensive manner.
Collaborate in scheduling of appropriate referrals with outside providers when appropriate.Serve as an interdisciplinary member of the health care team of providers to include: athletic trainers, sports dietitian, orthopedic surgeons, chiropractors, sport and clinical psychologists, clinical counselors and other allied health care professionals.Communicate effectively and efficiently with members of the Sport Medicine staff, and athletic trainers.Assist Sports Medicine staff with the administration and documentation of pre-participation medical exams. Establish medical clearance for all student-athletes.Assist the Associate Athle ic Director for Integrated Health and Sports Performance with the development, review, and rehearsal of emergency action plans, the development of medical and administrative protocol and clinical management policies.Collaborate withJMU Orthopedic Team Physicians and Sports Medicine staff regarding rehabilitation and return to play progressions and protocols.Provide event/game coverage for home and away football games and assist in home coverage for M/W Basketball games and Conference/NCAA tournament events hosted by James Madison University.Maintain medical records and documentation on all student-athletes in a timely, efficient, and confidential manner.Provide clinical education of athletic training students rotating within the James Madison University Sports Medicine Physicians' Clinic. Act as Medical Director of the Athletic Training Education Program.Qualifications
Required:
Is an MD or DO in good standing, with an unrestricted license to practice medicine.Possesses a fundamental knowledge of on-field medical emergency care.Is trained in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) usage.Has a working knowledge primary care medical conditions, musculoskeletal injuries, and psychological issues affecting student-athletes.Previous experience as a team physician at the collegiate level.A Virginia License to practice medicine will be required prior to beginning work.Unrestricted License through the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to prescribe controlled substancesPreferred:
Skills to perform diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound examinations when medically indicated.Previous experience managing a medical clinic.Completion of Sports Medicine Fellowship.Extensive experience with concussion management.Conditions of Employment
