  SUMMARY

  The Chief Financial Officer has financial stewardship of SHRM and serves as a key advisor to the CEO for shaping business strategy. This includes overseeing financial management, financial operations, treasury, reserve investments, and retirement plan funding. The CFO will provide leadership in the areas of accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis, and internal controls. The CFO manages the organization’s relationships with external financial professionals and advisors (e.g. audit firm, legal advisors, banking, insurance and investment advisors). The Chief Financial Officer will bring a well-rounded and disciplined financial and strategic perspective to the organization. Executive Team members are expected to embrace SHRM’s Guiding Principles and model behavior that demonstrates those principles in action.   Responsibilities:

  Develop and implement an effective, well-defined financial plan to meet the organization’s mission and business strategy, and to serve and advance the Human Resource profession globally.

  Play a key role in the identification, analysis and development of new strategies, products, and services to better serve SHRM’s audience segments and clients and enhance long-term financial sustainability.

  Serve as Treasurer for the organization and its wholly-owned subsidiaries.

  Serve as the primary liaison for the organization and its affiliates Audit and Finance Committees as well as supporting the CEO and Board members in their roles as fiduciaries of the organization by keeping them regularly informed on financial matters affecting the organization.

  Proactively provide well thought out financial direction, strategies, and recommendations to the Board for consideration, guidance and approval.

  Responsible for the development of an enterprise risk framework and assessment process with assistance from internal Audit Services.

  Direct the management of the investments and retirement plans.

  Provide administrative oversight to Internal Audit Services.

  Establish, develop, and maintain key external and internal relationships.

  Other duties and projects as assigned.

  Education & Experience Requirements

  15+ years in finance leadership within a globally operating company or unit, including 3-5 years in a people leadership role.

  Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Business or related field required.

  Advanced degree such as MBA or similar and CPA certification preferred. Ongoing professional development and learning valued.

  Proven track record as a trusted advisor to CEOs, Executive Teams, and Boards. Experience in not-for-profit associations or as a board member is valuable.

  Experience in financial aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships.

  Proven ability in enterprise vendor management and strong negotiation skills.

  Proven ability to lead and inspire diverse, cross-collaborative teams comprised of employees, contractors, and consultants.

  Possess a team-building proficiency with the ability to evaluate and develop talent within the finance function.

  Ability to influence and present robust business cases for change and align financial strategies with business objectives and organizational goals.

  Proven expertise in setting performance and development standards for the finance team.

  Skilled in effective collaboration and best practice sharing for informed business decisions.

  Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, and the ability to interface directly with internal and external clients.

  Strategic thinker with a results-driven approach. Proactive in identifying and addressing business challenges.

  Possess strong execution skills and financial acumen.

  Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work across a large cross-section of stakeholders.

  Ability to work in a high-energy, dynamic environment and energized by working with a global team across time zones.

  The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly evolving digital landscape, with a willingness to embrace and drive change proactively.

  Proficiency in data analytics and a strong focus on data-driven decision-making.

  Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

  Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  Expected travel is 0-10%
