  3B Flex is a 30-bed unit with the capacity to "flex" beds betweenprogressive care (PCU) and intensive care (ICU) level acuity and isone of our highest rated units for nursing and patient satisfaction. On anaverage day, 26 beds are designated as PCU level with a 1:3 nurse topatient ratio and 4 beds are designated as ICU level, which is 1:2 or1:1 ratio, depending upon the needs of the patient. Nurses on 3B Flex carefor many specialty services such as post interventional cardiology,surgery, trauma, medicine, neurology and neurosurgery. This unit ishighly desirable for nurses looking for opportunities to grow professionally.

  Job Summary

  The Charge Nurse, with minimal direction, supervises nursing and supportstaff in an inpatient unit, specialty clinic, or treatment programs invarious patient care settings.The Charge Nurse, adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA)standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code ofEthics (2015) to provide care to all patients. Applies criticalthinking, evidence-based policies, procedures, guidelines and competenceto collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in patientsafety and quality outcomes. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritasin daily practice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder/ Director, Watson Caring Science Institute."

  Essential Functions:

  Operations ManagementOversee department/unit for assigned shift employing clinical and managerialskills to care for patients while also providing guidance and leadership toother nurses who are working with patients including but not limited topreparing daily staffing assignments, mentoring staff, evaluatingperformance, facilitating patient flow, admissions, and discharges. (40%)Patient AssessmentAssess the needs of individuals, families and/or communities to identifypotential health or safety problems, Instruct individuals and families onhealth education and disease prevention and after care (20%)Treatment and EvaluationConsult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan,implement and evaluate patient care. Monitor all aspects of patient care,including diet and physical activity, develop and modify patient care plansas indicated by patient's responses and conditions. Prepare patients for,and assist with examinations and treatments (20%)Medication administration, documentation and reassessment (10%)Monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in patient's condition andvital signs (10%)Education:

  Associate's Degree RequiredWork Experience:

  1-3 years Professional nursing experience in a patient care setting. RequiredLicenses:

  RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  Adherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/ Process /Performance [ANA Standards addendum- signed] and accrediting body standards.Strong understanding and display of the principals of customer service as itapplies to patients, staff and the communityAbility to assist in identifying ways to promote quality patient-centric careand maintain Denver Health's high level of patient satisfaction. [NursingVision Statement]Ability to work effectively in a team matrix environment. Ability tocommunicate clearly and effectively at all levels and in a cross functionalenvironment.Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary staff, charge nurses,clinical nurse educator(s), and Nursing Managers, providers,,executive leadership to provide care to patient with respect to theiruniqueness using informed judgment, competence, individualqualifications, and collaboration with the health care team.Ability to demonstrate an understanding of assessment findings as they relateto the disease process and continuum of care.Proficient in EHRBasic Office Suite skills preferred
