Scope:
Phlebotomist responsibilities:Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick) accordingto established procedures. Identifies patients using two patient identifiers.Labels specimens and specimen containers accurately.Determines the correct priority for STAT, Routine, ASAP, etc. specimencollections. Collects and receives specimens into the laboratory utilizingcomputer protocols including processing, preparation, centrifugation,aliquot and routing of specimens, to include reference lab. Ensures thetimely transport and processing of all patient specimens for testing.Files patients lab reports, requisitions charges for the business office andsends reports to outside hospitals and clinics. Posts charges and reconcilesinvoices. Investigates complex bills, as needed. Researches and resolves anyquestionable patient orders. Enters patient demographic data accurately.Maintains required lab records and logs, collects statistics for reports andother clerical duties as directed by manager.
