  Caterpillar Defense is seeking a Program Manager in Dallas, Texas to fill a position in the Program Management Division. This position is responsible for coordinating with internal product, engineering, sales and contracting organizations, and external customers to translate unique customer requirements into marketable items for direct sales through federal government contracting mechanisms. Customers can include US Department of Defense and Federal agencies, as well as international allied militaries, Caterpillar dealers and third-party governmental marketing and sales organizations.

  Job Duties:

  Manage several complex business growth programs, which are long term in nature for the optimization of product distribution, product offerings, unique industry segments and global manufacturing footprint.

  Determine the scope of work and lead efforts to align customer product requirements with commercial product group offerings. This can include collaboration on NPI, CPI and NTI programs, parts and product obsolescence, S&OP planning, factory/facility production coordination.

  Serve as the primary customer focal point to resolve problems before, during, and after delivery by providing specific direction for the performance of all work to meet cost, quality and required contract delivery schedules. Negotiate changes to programs including cost, price, supplier selection, etc. Direct changes required due to performance or reliability problems and assist in negotiating contracts.

  Position works independently with considerable freedom of action and is broadly subject to functional policies and ultimate goals. Manages the compliance of its own assignments and keeps up to date with new industry trends, changing technology and regulations affecting the competitive environment.

  Travel (domestic and international) is required up to 15% to monitor and resolve issues regarding customer satisfaction, future product needs, and oversee supplier and subcontractor execution and quality.

  Develops basic persuasive arguments.

  Discusses organizational culture around providing input on decisions.

  Uses active listening skills and probing techniques to surface opportunities to influence.

  Identifies who the decision makers are and how they receive information.

  Regularly presents ideas or suggestions to associates in persuasive terms.

  Alignment - Extensive Experience: Knowledge of the importance of collaboration among team members and the ability to enroll stakeholders in communicating and coordinating activities to support the organization's vision and strategies.

  Involves team in discussions focused on clarifying and improving broad commitment.

  Interprets the organization's vision for external stakeholders.

  Establishes clear expectations and accountabilities linked to the vision.

  Develops methods for effectively and consistently communicating strategy and operational goals.

  Helps managers tailor approaches for mobilizing their team around the strategy.

  Refines operational priorities over time to preserve alignment with vision.

  Cross-Team Integration - Working Knowledge: Understanding of the importance of inter-team collaboration in breaking down silos and achieving business results; ability to lead employees from various functions to communicate, coordinate work across divisions, and collaborate in solving problems as one team.

  Maintains a strong internal network that promotes informal collaboration.

  Shares information that may be relevant to other teams across divisions.

  Assesses the potential synergies from combining common practices across teams.

  Identifies differences among teams that could cause barriers to effective integration.

  Applies relevant information gathered from comparable teams to own team.

  Program Management - Extensive Experience: Knowledge of the policies and techniques to manage a set of related projects within a program; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control the set of projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve program objectives.

  Evaluates risks and vulnerabilities, and creates contingency plans.

  Advises others on preferred tools, techniques and methods for estimating program cost and time.

  Conducts regular and ad-hoc program reviews with project managers, team and clients.

  Coaches others in maintaining open communication among project managers and interested parties.

  Oversees reporting requirements, and creates monitoring and control mechanisms.

  Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes and monitors a set of projects within a program.

  Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  A college or university degree or equivalent experience.

  Incumbents usually have had 7-10 years of machine/component product development experience.
