Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled mechanicalrepair work to gas- and diesel-powered engines
(both water- and air-cooled designs); carries out a preventivemaintenance program. Work varies, moderate individual
judgment exercised within prescribed standards and procedures.
Tasks:
Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical,hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technicaldrawings.
Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly toensure proper performance and compliance
with manufacturers\' specifications.
Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work onequipment and vehicles.
Performs a variety of mechanical repairs to power equipment, includingmowers, tractors, trailers and other kinds of
landscape equipment.
Overhauls air cooled engines & carburetors.
Fabricates special equipment and attachments to equipment involvingacetylene and electrical welding.
Plans and carries out a preventive maintenance program on powerequipment.
Maintains an inventory of parts, tools, equipment, apparatus, andsupplies used in the shop.
Maintains shop and tools in clean and safe manner.
Performs engine service/overhaul on a large variety of vehiclesincluding heavy equipment and emergency response.
Performs transmission and chassis service/overhaul on a large variety ofvehicles including heavy equipment and
emergency response.
May perform body and fender repair and painting work.
May perform water and wastewater treatment plant mechanical repairs.
Assist in maintenance and repair work on grounds and buildings.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with otheremployees, superiors, other agencies, and the
public.
Deals with the public in a manner that positively promotes the image ofthe City and handles complaints tactfully.

homeland security occurs. Such call to respond and assist may involvethose activities to his/her regular job
responsibilities and incorporate other non-job-related duties asnecessary and required of an employee. An

time with infrequent breaks or rest periods.
