JOB REQUIREMENTS: YMCA Camp Glacier Hollow, in Central Wisconsin, offerssafe, fun resident overnight and day camps for youth, fosteringgrowthand development. The Kitchen Assistant/Cook is responsible for assistingthe Kitchen Manager/Cook carry out overall kitchen operations includingmeal planning, cooking 3 meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner), coordinatingcook staff, food and supply ordering, general cleaning, washing dishesand record keeping. Additional duties may include camp program supportwhich involves general counselor support, teaching activities, basiccamp operations, and other duties as assigned by the Camp Director. WORKSCHEDULE: Typical workweek is approx. 22-30 hours per week includingcooking and services for three meal times, Sunday-Friday. Typical timesmay include 6:00 AM - 9:30 AM Breakfast, 10:00 AM -1:30 PM Lunch, 4:00PM-7:30 PM Dinner. Typical times may vary based on amount of time neededto prepare for and clean-up after meals and complete any additionalduties. Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, orsilverware. Store food in designated containers and storage areas toprevent spoilage. Portion and wrap food, or place it directly on platesfor service to patrons. Take and record temperature of food and foodstorage areas, such as refrigerators and freezers. Prepare a variety offoods, such as meats, vegetables, or desserts, according to customers\'orders or supervisors\' instructions, following approved procedures.Wash, peel, and cut various foods, such as fruits and vegetables, toprepare for cooking or serving. Carry food supplies, equipment, andutensils to and from storage and work areas. Remove trash and cleankitchen garbage containers. Receive and store food supplies, equipment,and utensils in refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas. Weighor measure ingredients. Inform supervisors when equipment is not workingproperly and when food and supplies are getting low, and order neededitems. Assist cooks and kitchen staff with various tasks as needed, andprovide cooks with needed items. Scrape leftovers from dishes intogarbage containers. Load dishes, glasses, and tableware into dishwashingmachines. Keep records of the quantities of food used. Vacuum diningarea and sweep and mop kitchen floor. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE ANDQUALIFICATIONS: Training and/or experience in a kitchen and/or previouscook experience required. Previous leadership experience and/or desireto work with youth and teens is required. Must be a positive role-model,flexible, energetic, dedicated and a responsible team player. PhysicalRequirements: Must be able to perform cooking and cleaning duties in thekitchen. Must be able to easily move through camp, effectivelycommunicate and actively interact with staff, campers and parents. Mustbe able to routinely lift and carry kitchen cooking equipment andsupplies (20-60 pounds).
