About This Role:
Butler County, the largest county in Kansas with an area of 1,483 squaremiles, is in south-central Kansas. Butler County is known for itsindustrial and agricultural industries, along with having a rural/urbaninterface. El Dorado is located within 30 miles of Wichita and is in theFlint Hills grasslands. This location provides opportunities to enjoy avariety of recreational and social activities.
Butler County is home to nine unified school districts along withprivate schools and home school groups. The
4-H program is centered around nine community clubs and a shootingsports program with approximately 300 members and over 100 4-Hvolunteers. An additional 1,000+ youth are involved in enrichmentprograms.
Extension agents are professional educators who serve as a link betweenKansas State University and communities across Kansas. Agents arejointly responsible to the director of K-State Research and Extension(represented by a designated administrator) and the local extensionboard.
This position will lead the development, implementation, and evaluationof a comprehensive 4-H youth development program for school-aged youthin cooperation with local community members and extension colleagues.The primary focus of this position is youth development, along withadult volunteer development; youth education program development;membership growth and participation; and community partnershipexpansion. Programming will include but is not limited to: communityclub support, out-of-school programs, school enrichment, volunteermanagement, and outreach to create program opportunities with new andexisting community partners.
