About the Department
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago is a dynamicand stimulating place to work. We strive for the highest level ofcomplex care for children from diagnosis and treatment; provideoutstanding education and training for students, postgraduate scholars,and physicians; and nurture the research of Department scholars who seekto elucidate the causes of pediatric disease and identify promising newtherapies. In addition to our provision of clinical care at UChicagoMedicine (UCM) Comer Children\'s Hospital and at our regional sites, weare currently expanding our clinical care across Northern Illinois andNorthwestern Indiana. In collaboration with our partners in theChicagoland Children\'s Health Alliance (CCHA; Advocate Children\'sHospital, and NorthShore University Health System). CCHA hasresponsibility for the care of almost 1 million children. The Departmenthas 6 ambulatory sites and 3 inpatient sites of care across the regionwith the goal of providing care \'close to home\' whenever feasible(https://pediatrics.uchicago.edu/). The Department of Pediatrics has approximately 185physicians, physician-scientists, and scientists in 15 sections thatcover the range of pediatric care. Our education program serves thestudents of the College, the Pritzker School of Medicine (PSOM), 70categorical pediatric residents, 6 child neurology residents, 58fellows, and numerous graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. TheDepartment has a staff of 220 advanced practice providers,administrators, research administrators, clinical research associates,and laboratory staff. The Department has an expanding portfolio ofFederal, foundational, and Philanthropic awards, and is committed todoubling its research base in the next three years.
Job Summary
The Business Administrator manages the day-to-day operation of acomplement of sections in the Department of Pediatrics. The incumbentperforms a range of professional activities in support of research,clinical, and educational missions and related programs and projects.Collaborates closely with the Section Administrator to meet the needs ofassigned sections.
This role has five (5) main areas of responsibility: operations,finance, academic affairs, personnel management, and oversight ofresidency and fellowship training programs. Additionally, the incumbentfacilitates research initiatives of the faculty and staff.

Responsibilities
Performs ongoing assessments of office organization and function,identifies operational deficiencies, recommends and implementssolutions.
Partners with physicians, nurses and other staff members to providebroad administrative support, including oversight of academicappointments, medical staff privileges, recruitment, onboarding,off-boarding, and promotion.
Assists with coordination of all functions necessary to support theresidency and/or fellowship training programs, including management ofinterview schedules, troubleshooting and onboarding and off boarding.
Assist Section Chief and Section Administrator with operational and administrative needs as requested.
May manage special projects or functions related to the business of theorganizational unit.
Serves as a liaison with Research Administration and supports managementand reconciliation of research accounts, including pre-award andpost-award.
In partnership with Departmental Human Resources (HR), manages variousHR needs, including hiring, termination, time and attendance, payroll,as well as employee and labor relations.
Researches, compiles and analyzes data to create reports, proposals andbusiness plans.
Examine and apply information thoughtfully to help solve problems andimprove and optimize processes.
Assist in space planning and adjustments.
Manage day-to-day facility issues and monitor overall environment.
Professionally supports the clinical department management. Implementsplans for clinical educational programs and initiatives.
Monitors finances for the clinical section. Provides management withregular updates and ensures that spending limits are adhered to and arewithin budget.
Assists faculty in the pursuit of grants and awards. Conducts specialstudies and projects, including the development and enhancement offunding opportunities by working closely with the fac
