JOB SUMMARY
The Blast Operator will work in the area of machine blast operations, which is accomplished by forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material through a nozzle and onto the surface of a component. Blasting is often required to remove surface contaminants to prepare parts for repairs and paint.
As a blast operator, you will work alongside experienced team members and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in your career. You will become familiar with various types of blast equipment and blast media such as aluminum oxide, and plastic media. As your skills increase, so will your responsibilities, giving you hands-on experience, growth, and additional responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform a variety of blast techniques on various types of turbine engine components using a cross mix of equipment (high pressure air, blast tank, coded pressure vessel and high-pressure nozzles).Perform various masking and taping (prep work) and part blasting operations using materials such as aluminum oxide, plastic grit and wet blast.Set-up and operate blast machines and associated equipment to detailed work instructions and manufacturer specifications. Secure supplies, tooling, and blast product prior to commencing operation.Perform routine inspections of blast equipment.Clean, adjust and maintain equipment using hand tools.Utilize daily, overhead crane and lifting equipment.Follow written and verbal instructions accurately. Clearly understand all instructions prior to beginning by referencing and applying work scope as outlined in multiple internal and external documents, work instructions, operational sketches, and process sheets. Communicate all work-related problems and issues with supervisors or other departments in a timely and efficient manner. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years’ work experience in a manufacturing setting.Possess a solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand step-by-step processes.Experience in or the demonstrated ability to use pressure gages.Previous experience following directions and reading work instructions in a manufacturing environment.OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.Ability to learn the proper use of hand-tools while demonstrating good eye-hand coordination.Careful attention to detail.Capable of handling multiple tasksBasic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work in difficult positions. Stand, walk, and/or sit for extended hours.
Able to work in enclosed spaces for long periods of time.Must be able to pass a fitness-for-duty test and a respirator fit test.The noise level in some work areas may be loud.Use of safety and personal protective equipment is mandatory under some conditions. a. Use of:
i. Safety glasses.
ii. TyVek Jumpsuit.
iii. Supplied air respirator.
Follow general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, gloves, and hearing protection. Able to wear additional PPE as required.Move heavy parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, two person lifts, or other handling methods. Move fewer heavy parts (<50 pounds) with or without hoists, slings, carts or other handling methods.
