Position Description
This is a part-time position for an associate research scientist to assist with an externally funded study of speech production in the Biofeedback Intervention Technology for Speech (BITS) Lab. The associate research scientist will contribute to post-processing and measurement of audio files resulting from experimental data collection and will check the validity of measures derived and entered in the study database.
Project Synopsis
Speech sound disorder in childhood poses a barrier to academic and social participation, with potentially lifelong consequences for educational and occupational outcomes. The proposed supplement will lay groundwork for the development of automated speech recognition tools for speech sound disorder by modifying and augmenting an existing corpus of acoustic recordings of child speech in preparation for sharing with researchers in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Hours
Estimated 5 hours per week, with flexible scheduling
Compensation
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly salary range for this position is $26.00 - $28.25. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
PhD in communication sciences and disorders. Previous experience with acoustic phonetics and Praat software.
