  The Division of Nutritional Sciences (the Division) plays a leading role in national and international nutrition research, teaching, and public engagement. Focal areas for faculty research include precision nutrition, metabolism, lifecycle nutrition, microbiome, and nutrient interactions, food and nutrition systems, health equity, and social and behavioral nutrition.

  The mission of the College of Human Ecology is to improve lives by exploring and shaping human connections to natural, social, and built environments. Through innovative collaborations and an interdisciplinary, applied approach, the College of Human Ecology addresses the complexity of the human experience. It is home to approximately 1000 undergraduates, 200 graduate students, 120 full-time faculty, and over 25,000 proud alumni.

  Position Summary:

  Cornell University is seeking a full-time Bioinformatician and/or Biostatistician to provide statistical support. Responsibilities include providing substantive statistical research support for a research group focused on precision nutrition and health with projects ranging from randomized clinical trials, microbiome studies, and digital twins to complex population surveys. Disciplinary focus areas in the research group include public health, medicine, epidemiology, nutrition, and infectious disease.

  Qualifications:

  Master's degree in bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics, or related field and a minimum of 3 years' experience in a research environment, or equivalent combination.Skills in areas of biostatistics such as experimental design, analysis of clinical trials, novel modeling techniques, curation of complex datasets and data visualization.Experience with designing machine learning models including feature selection, feature engineering; clustering and other dimension reduction methods; decision trees, random forest, support-vector machines, naive Bayes classifier, K nearest neighbors, etc.Interest in and ability to independently learn new statistical and computational methods such as R packages or command line tools related to microbiome sequence data alignment and analysis.Interest in learning and applying emerging artificial intelligence (AI) methods to large biological datasets.Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.Sets and maintains high professional standards with attention to detail.Enthusiasm for working with a large and diverse clientele and the ability to communicate technical information in an accessible way.Experience using various statistical packages, required (e.g. R, SAS, Stata, Python, SPSS, JMP).Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.
