  Job Description

  Reporting to the Director of Talent & Culture, the Benefits, Health & Safety Advisor develops and manages the hotel’s health, safety and wellness programs and initiatives. The Benefits, Health & Safety Advisor administers and case-manages disability claims, the Hotel’s Return to Work Program, administer the Group Benefits Plan and serve as a resource for a variety of inquiries and issues.

  Summary of Responsibilities:

  Provide leadership in developing, communicating and implementing a vision for occupational health and safety within the Hotel;

  Develop, coordinate and facilitate the implementation of an effective health and safety management system that complies with all applicable legislative requirements, best practices, and corporate requirements;

  Develop and deploy wellness initiatives and programs for the Hotel;

  Manage the WSIB claim process including, but not limited to: claim filing, coordinating the return to work program etc.;

  Develop pro-active preventative strategies and safety education opportunities for leaders and colleagues;

  Educate employees about the Group Benefits Plan and Sun Life Pension Plan. Administer the Group Benefits Plan in accordance with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts policy as well as the Sun Life Pension Plan;

  Administer Short-Term Disability Claims on behalf of the Hotel. Advise on disability accommodation considering medical prognosis and physician’s recommendation. Communicate with treating Physicians and Health Care Practitioners to ensure claim files are complete while ensuring high level of privacy;

  Support the managers by providing trainings and updates regarding workplace injuries, disability accommodation, and prevention of injuries, modified work issues and employee absenteeism as required;

  Co-Chair on the Joint Health & Safety Committee;

  Prepare various monthly benefit reports and coordinate payments with Accounting; 

  Prepare monthly health and safety reports and review at monthly Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings;

  Responsible for payroll duties and updates of colleague data records on a bi-weekly basis (entering new colleague files in Dayforce, updating employee data as required, etc.);

  Assist the Director of Talent & Culture in leading the implementation and deployment of corporate procedures and programs as required;

  Provide support to the Director of Talent & Culture in the administration of collective agreement and employee relations as pertinent;

  Actively participate in colleague events;

  Other duties as assigned;

  Qualifications

  Post-secondary education required. Diploma in Human Resources will be considered a strong asset.

  3 years of experience in Human Resources

  Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in both official languages (French/English)

  Proven ability to maintain professionalism in a highly confidential environment and to deal with tact, diplomacy and warmth. Demonstrate patience and empathy. Ability to understand the needs of a diverse workforce.

  Excellent attention to details and superior problem-solving skills.

  Ability to multi-task in an extremely busy office.

  Previous experience with administration of accident claim management, disability management, Group Benefit Plan administration, Health & Safety program will be considered an asset.

  Computer literate (Microsoft Office Suite, Dayforce, Taleo)
