Job Summary
Under close supervision, responsible for providing a safe, supportive andtherapeutic environment for psychiatric patients. Provides direct patient careand may conduct therapeutic group sessions under the direction and supervisionof the RN. Provides input to the RN to help develop the plan of care andassists in carrying out the plan of care for assigned patients. Essential Functions:
Assists with admissions, discharges, transfers and appropriatedocumentation. Obtains vital signs on assigned adolescent adult, andgeriatric patients. Collects laboratory specimens on assigned patients asdirected by RN staff. (25%)Performs transportation responsibilities when requested; transportingpatients from one area to another; delivering laboratory specimens, bloodproducts, medications and other hospital/medical items to the requesteddepartments as needed; and includes access to the pneumatic tube system totransport items, including blood products and medications, to and from thetube and the desired location. (25%)Differentiates normal from abnormal findings and reports abnormal values orconditions to the RN. (EX. abnormal vital signs, safety concerns,family issues.). (20%)Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining asecure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on thejob, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities orto improve a patient's care. Provides care to patients inseclusion/restraint according to 27-10 regulations and department policy andprocedure. Is aware of legal aspects of care as defined by C.S. 27-10including patients' rights. High School Diploma or GED RequiredWork Experience:
Two years' experience in the field or related area preferred or anequivalent combination RequiredLicenses:
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates sensitivity in dealing with the psychiatric patient populationwhich requires very specific communication skills as directed by the plan ofcare and ability to deal with milieu management.Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within aparticular field.Skill in assisting patients with daily activities. Human relations andeffective ommunication skills.Ability to demonstrate and maintain clinic competency.Ability to observe and document the patient's behavior.Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functionsof the job.Basic MS Office suite.
