Job Summary/Duties:
The Auditor III is assigned to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and performs audit and program evaluation work in accordance with the standards and procedures in the OIG Audit Manual and in the Government Accountability Office publication entitled "Government Auditing Standards" (i.e., the Yellow Book). The incumbent participates in pre-audit planning, verification of survey information, audit program preparation and reporting. In addition, the incumbent assists with the verification of specific audit segments or issues. The Auditor III prepares detailed summaries, draft findings, and participation in writing the final report. The incumbent requests guidance on assignment when problems are encountered. The work is part of a larger project and is reviewed in support of findings and recommendations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serves as a member of a team responsible for conducting reviews of Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (WMATA)’s activities covering broad and complex problem areas. The function provides an appraisal of the degree of management effectiveness, operating efficiency, and economy with which the mission of WMATA is being met, and recommends improvements where needed.
Assists with the review of management and statistical data systems to ascertain reliability and usefulness. This review determines whether they are constructed on sound principles, are functioning adequately, and are being used effectively to benefit business requirements.
With minimal guidance, prepares work papers and ensures documentation is in accordance with OIG policies, procedures and professional audit standards as established by GAO's Yellow Book. This is done to accurately support and document the results of analysis and findings of the audit and to ensure quality work is performed.
Under general guidance, formulates written reports that are factual, objective and conforms to GAO and OIG professional standards. This ensures that the results of the audit are presented in a clear and convincing manner.
Maintains effective relationships when representing the Office of Inspector General by exemplifying the highest professional standards of conduct.
Assists the audit manager with evaluating responses from WMATA management and provides recommendations of appropriate action by OIG on each agency response.
Works effectively as a team member to make valuable contributions for the success of the team.
