  The Ear Institute in the Department of Otolaryngology is currently seeking a full time Audiology Fellow to work in Miami, FL. The position of Audiology Fellow is a fellowship for an individual interested in developing skills in both cochlear implants and general audiology. The incumbent will spend half of their time working in the Cochlear implant Program and half of their time in the Audiology Diagnostic Clinic.

  CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  Under the supervision of a licensed audiologist:1. Provides diagnostic assessment of hearing function in children and adults.2. Evaluates vestibular/balance function.3. Performs electrophysiologic assessment of hearing and balance function.4. Participates in early intervention services for children with hearing loss.5. Performs hearing implant evaluations.6. Provides rehabilitative management to adults and children with hearing loss through the provision of hearing aids and assistive listening technologies.7. Evaluates tinnitus and provides tinnitus management.8. Counsels individuals with hearing and vestibular loss regarding the etiology of the disorder and its management.9. Provides complete and accurate reporting of results and recommendations to the patient and in the medical record. 10. Utilizes electronic medical record and audiologic and nerve monitoring software applications.11. Participates in case conferences, multidisciplinary clinics, and staff meetings.12. Assists with the maintenance of supplies by checking stock regularly and advising supervising staff of anticipated needs.13. Maintains current knowledge of new technologies and approaches in the field.14. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

  • In the Audiology Diagnostic Clinic, the individual will perform routine audiometric evaluations including air, bone and speech testing, immittance testing, and such special diagnostic procedures as evoked potentials and otoacoustic emissions.• The individual will develop and implement the skills to evaluate potential hearing aid and/or assistive device candidates.• The individual will perform electroacoustic measures and Real-Ear measures to verify device performance.• Counsels candidates regarding expectations and device selection and will perform the necessary follow-up.• In the Vestibular Clinic, the individual will perform Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials, Post urography, Rotational Chair testing, and Videonystagmography testing for assessment and diagnosis of vestibular disorders.• In the Implant Program, the individual will develop and implement the skills to evaluate potential implant candidates, will counsel candidates regarding expectations and device selection and will perform the necessary follow-up for implant patients

  Education:Bachelor degreeMust be enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Audiology program

  Certification and Licensing:State of Florida provisional Audiologist licensure

  Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:• Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.• Ability to understand and follow instructions.• Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  Department Specific Functions

  Audiology Fellows (externs) may be required to participate in grand rounds, journal clubs, and lectures throughout the year as well as complete didactic assignments or projects to build clinical skill set and competency.

  Audiology Fellows (externs) will spend approximately 25% effort in auditory diagnostics, 25% in vestibular diagnostics, 25% in auditory rehabilitation, and 25% in hearing implants. Externs are expected to obtain competencies in each of these core areas over a 50 week training period. Effort will be adjusted based on attainment of skills and demonstration of competencies in the four cores.
