  Staff Attorney?SouthDakota Voices for Peace (SDVFP) seeksanUnaccompanied Childrens Project (UCP)Staff Attorney to carry out direct legal services to children in immigration court, living in South Dakota, including state civil court proceedings as it relates to representation of children in immigration court.TheUCPStaff Attorney will work on a team withother attorneys, paralegals, Community Health Workers, interns, interpretersand will besupervised by theCEO, an immigration attorney.TheUCPStaff Attorney must be a self-motivated advocate with a passion for justice and equityand experienced in working with multilingual, vulnerable clients.TheUCPStaff Attorney willrepresentchildren and families through the immigration process, including immigration court work. Immigration Court is in Fort Snelling, MN.This position is based in Sioux Falls, SD.

  Primary Responsibilities:

  Conduct intakes, legal research, fact development, work with multilingual clients,work with children,draft and file immigration filings,affidavits, briefs, prepare clients for interviews and court proceedings.AttendContinuing Legal Education (CLE) opportunities as it pertains to children in immigration court and family law issues.Explainfamily law,immigration law,andprocedures to children and their families.Represent clients through immigration court proceedings and understand EOIR practicesand procedures.Represent clients through administrative agencyproceedings including but not limited to USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.)Represent guardians and custodians inSDstate court as it relates to a childs immigration law proceedings.Stay abreast of allfederal and state immigrationpoliciesand rule changes in immigration lawand state laws related to guardianships,conservatorships,andcustody.Represent SDVFP at regional roundtables and committeespertaining toimmigration law and our practice area.Work withlegal teamto develop sound strategies in case managementand track data for grant requirements.Work withSDVFP teamto develop public education materials, Know Your Rights materials,and communication strategies.Work with SD Voices for Justice lobbyists to advance the goals of SD Voicesfor Peaceand coalition partners onlegislationimpactingundocumented, immigrant and refugee populations.Support legislative advocacy with legal and policy analysis.Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace using a personal approach that values all individuals and respects differences in race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance.Commit to work collaboratively and respectfully toward resolving obstacles and/or conflicts.Travel asrequired.?Qualifications:

  Demonstrated commitment to the mission and goals of SD Voices for Peace and SD Voices for Justice.J.D. degreefrom an A.B.Aaccredited law schooland1-3 yearexperience in the legal field.```{=html}

  ```- Licensed to practice law in any U.S.jurisdictionwith the ability to join the South Dakota Bar (willing to take the next bar examination or waive in)or eligible to take the next SD Bar Examination.- Passionate commitment to and familiarity with immigrants rights, racial and social justice, and state issuesimpactingimmigrant communities.- Demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable clients.- Demonstrated ability to work with multilingual clients and interpreters.- Demonstrated ability to work with multicultural team.- Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken) preferred but not necessary.- Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team.- Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution,and verbal communication skills.

This includes walking alongside community members as they navigate complex systems to assure community members are receiving services. This Bilingual CHW will continue building strong relationships with partner agencies and other CHWs. The new Bilingual CHW will engage and support community members as well as SDVFPs clients who are currently in the immigration legal system. This position will collaborate with all teams within SDVFP.

  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  Network with other community partners and healthcare providers to understand services available and to build trust with partner organizations and SDVFP.Use Bilingual skills to refer, support, and connect clients and families to resources including food, housing, health insurance, health information, quality healthcare, and other social services.Coordinate transportation to appointments and serve as a client/patient advocate and interpreter when needed.Bring awareness to community partners and institutions regarding barriers to services for multilingual community members and advocate for access.Collect Data and document referrals and interactions with clients and community members using the system developed by SDVFP.Attend community events including events with other SDVFP teams for visibility as a community resource and educate on programs SDVFP offers in the community.Travel as Required.Troubleshoot barriers to access to healthcare and social services.Identify and understand individual and community needs.Serve as liaison between families, neighborhood centers, and schools to understand the fundamental needs of the community when they are in crisis.Maintain client confidentiality at all times.```{=html}

  ```- Attend meetings, training, and seminars as deemed appropriate and necessary.- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, WhatsApp, and Case Management systems.- Enhance the clients ability to effectively communicate with healthcare and service providers while understanding their needs and community resources available to them.

  QUALIFICATIONS

  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  Proficient in speaking, reading and writing in both Spanish and English.

  Ability to complete CHW Certification within a year.

  Ability to maintain flexible hours to meet the needs of clients and community events.

  Ability to work respectfully and effectively in teams, across SDVFP program teams, work in community and work independently to obtain identified goals.

  Ability to identify barriers to access to social services and provide critical thinking and creative solutions.

  Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments and client needs.

  Ability to use trauma-informed approaches to care and conversation.

  Knowledge and familiarity with culture
