In this early career role as an Electronic Controls Hardware Engineer, you will create and integrate electrical and electronic hardware that is essential to Cummins products. You will typically develop and validate electronic sensors, actuators, control units, harnesses, wiring practices, or control systems and associated analog and digital signals to ensure the consistent operation of Cummins' products in a variety of customer applications.
As an Electronic Controls Hardware Engineer, you will:
Investigate electronic hardware problems, understand causal mechanisms, and recommend appropriate action.
Own problem resolution and document results with guidance from more experienced team members.
Apply and support the improvement of electronic hardware development processes and tools such as basic problem-solving techniques, familiarity with hardware development processes, and requirements analysis.
Apply knowledge of design methods such as worst-case analysis, circuit simulation, design & process failure mode analysis tools, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), schematic capture, Specification Compliance Matrix (or equivalent).
Obtain input from and collaborate with electronic suppliers and deliver prototype hardware to application engineering teams.
Be part of the decision-making process in the areas of hardware requirements, validation test that impact unit cost, functionality, and prototype delivery.
Be part of the problem resolution for components, products, systems, subsystems, or services with a low degree of technical complexity and ambiguity.
You will make an impact by:
Using electronic hardware and interconnections to measure and control systems
Using your knowledge of electrified systems to ensure a system design meets Cummins and customer expectations
Mitigating potential product failure modes to improve the reliability of the product
Verifying product performance against the product system requirements
Translating stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed
Influencing product design decisions using computational tools and methods to predict the capability of a products function relative to its system sub system and or component level requirements
To be successful in this role you will need:
A College, University or equivalent Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field.
A postgraduate PhD degree may be required for select Electronic Controls Hardware Engineer roles.
Good communication skills along with strengths in logic, planning and timely decision making.
Experience using Microsoft Office tools or equivalents, especially Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Minimum 2.5 or above GPA preferred
Must be able to complete 40 hours per week
2 years in a position/internship relating to your field of study preferred
