  The College of Nursing and Health Sciences ( CNHS ) seeks a dynamic, innovative, and visionary leader to serve as Chair of our vibrant Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science ( RMS ). This is a combined tenure-track faculty position with administrative Chair responsibilities. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent academic doctorate and have the qualifications and experience to hold a senior faculty position. At UVM , the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science is comprised of several related disciplines which includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise science, physical activity and wellness science, integrative health, and emergency medicine programs.

  We are seeking an individual who is an accomplished teacher-scholar with a clinical perspective, has experience in graduate education, and has achieved national recognition in their field. Leaders who are credentialed in a related discipline (as applicable) and eager for a dynamic opportunity to foster and implement growth and new initiatives are encouraged to apply. The RMS Department Chair is responsible for managing all aspects of academic leadership and administration within the department, including setting strategic direction, prioritizing initiatives, providing mentorship and faculty development opportunities, budgeting, fiscal management, developing curriculum with faculty, and overseeing and evaluating faculty and staff. The Chair is expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the University, maintain an active research program, and foster the growth and expansion of the department’s mission through mentorship of junior faculty.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Ph.D. in Biomechanics, Occupational Therapy, Exercise Science, Integrative Health, Emergency Medicine, Rehabilitation Science, Movement Science, Kinesiology, Health Sciences, or a closely related field

  Record of Excellence in Research, Grantsmanship, and Teaching

  Demonstrated ability to provide administrative and fiscal leadership

  The communication abilities and cross-cultural competencies to maximize effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members

  The ideal candidate will bring many of the following experiences, skills, and qualities:

  A strong record of scholarly, peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding

  Demonstrated success and creativity in fostering research collaborations across disciplines

  A track record of supporting an inclusive environment and being an ardent supporter of diversity, equity, and inclusion

  Ability to effectively balance administrative/leadership, research, and teaching responsibilities; ability to effectively manage and allocate resources

  Excellent interpersonal skills and proven capacity to build and maintain relationships internally and externally, accessible to faculty and administrative colleagues.

  A high degree of personal and professional integrity paired with a fair, collaborative, and transparent leadership style

  Mentorship skills to support faculty and staff development

  Creativity in their approach to program growth and expansion

  The Department: The Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science is comprised of several related disciplines which includes professional doctorate programs in physical therapy and occupational therapy, a masters program in physical activity and wellness science, an undergraduate program in exercise science, and certificate programs in integrative health and emergency medicine programs. Faculty involvement in the college-based Ph.D. in Interprofessional Health Sciences also promotes our commitment to scholarship and mentoring.

  Departmental facilities include the Human Motion Analysis laboratory which houses multiple force plates, EMG , and three-dimensional biomechanical equipment for static and dynamic human movement research; a physical activity and exercise behavior lab; and a neurophysiology lab that utilizes TMS and EEG .

  The College: The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is home to approximately 1,200 students in eight different health professions, comprising seven undergraduate and six graduate degree programs including an interdisciplinary Health Sciences PhD. We are also the academic home of the Osher Center for Integrative Health at UVM , one of 11 Osher Centers for Integrative Health across the United States and Europe. The College is committed to inter-professional collaboration in research, education, and practice. We are part of an academic health sciences center including Vermont’s tertiary care hospital, the University of Vermont Medical Center ( UVMMC ) and the Larner College of Medicine, situated on or next to the University campus.
