  Job Summary

  The Department of Psychiatry at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute is seeking an Associate Director of Research Operations to oversee operational and administrative components of our research mission. In this role, you will focus on sponsored program and business services, facilitating integration between pre- and post-award, compliance, and financial activities.

  This position will own the management of internal and external processes, stakeholder partnerships, and integration of operational-level pathways between the research, clinical, and education missions of HMHI . You can look forward to supervising a great team of research administration and business service professionals, plus coordinating with our research personnel.

  On a daily basis, this position will interact with researchers, provide research administration expertise, and solve administrative and operational challenges within the research mission.

  Please note this position does not have scientific oversight of our research projects nor does it require scientific expertise; rather, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our research mission and provide financial oversight for all pre- and post-award activity.

  Responsibilities

  Direct the daily operational activities of research administration (RA), specifically the management of pre-award, and oversee post-award and compliance.Support pre-award staff, including supervision, back-up support during absences and peaks in work volume, supporting junior level positions with their work, and as needed, hiring and training new pre-award staff or other assigned positions.Ensure that all project portfolio activities are completed accurately in a timely and inclusive manner.Assess risks appropriately to ensure compliance while providing quality service.Facilitate operational-level communication, interaction and processes between different teams and systems within the research mission.Partner with other HMHI missions to ensure research compliance with university/sponsor requirements and promote research goals.Maintain a flow of information from multiple groups and individuals to make timely, smart decisions about RA operations and best serve faculty interests and Department research goals.Assist with cultivating and disseminating funding opportunities.Cultivate strong relationships with research faculty and applicable HMHI faculty and staff.Represent the Department to the Office of Sponsored Projects and build strong relationships with other university departments to support RA for Department faculty.Assist the Director for Research, as requested, in navigating university-wide relationships to increase research collaboration and build sustainable infrastructure.With an operational focus, identify RA areas for process improvement and collaborate with others in the Department to execute those improvements.Maintain current knowledge on industry best practices and current events/regulations.Ensure RA services are accessible, transparent, and timely.Work Environment and Level of Frequency typically required

  Minimum Qualifications

  Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

  This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
