The Associate Athletic Director, Business Operations works with various levels of management to ensure the effective and efficient operations of the Athletics department business office. Develops, interprets, and implements complex financial concepts or techniques related to strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance.
JOB FUNCTIONS
This leadership position within the Athletics Business Office will provide financial and accounting support to the Athletic Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Plan
Work with select executive/senior staff, head coaches, and other appropriate staff members in developing an annual zero-based budget.
Assist in the preparation and execution of strategic financial planning including the annual operating budget, the five-year operating budget plan, and the five-year capital plan.
Report
Prepare, monitor, and reconcile monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports for the executive/senior staff, head coaches, and Financial Planning & Analysis staff for current fiscal year financial position and projected fiscal year-end position.
Manage capital project accounting and reconciliation.
Provide financial data to the Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA as required; lead the EADA/NCAA Financial reporting process and external auditor review of the agreed-upon procedures.
Analyze current budget trends and interpret financial data to make resource allocation recommendations to appropriate staff.
Ad Hoc reporting as necessary.
Educate
Provide budget training for executive/senior staff, head coaches, and other appropriate staff members.
Maintain compliance with NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference, institutional, and departmental policies and procedures.
Maintain and update Athletic Business Office policies and procedures manual. Recommend improvements to policies and procedures where necessary.
Process
Verify and approve Workday financial processes including requisitions, expense reports, and revenue deposits, among others, ensuring University controls and processes are followed.
Ensure monthly revenue and expense entries are correctly recorded according to GAAP standards.
Responsible for oversight of Apparel & Equipment inventory and reconciliation.
Serve as an internal liaison with the Financial Planning & Analysis, Procurement, Corporate Cards, and Audit departments and facilitate requests as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Exec. Associate AD for Business Operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field; and 5 years of athletics business operations or relevant experience, specifically completing EADA, NCAA Financial Reporting and NCAA Financial Audits; knowledge of NCAA rules; Supervisory experience
Preferences
Advanced Degree or Certification in applicable field, specifically CPA; Experience with Data Visualization Software, preferably Microsoft Power BI; 7+ years of athletics business operations or relevant experience; Experience with Workday Financial Management; Experience with Financial Planning & Analysis; Experience with Anaplan
