  Summary Statement

  We are looking for energetic Assistant Swim Team Coaches for our summer recreational swim program!

  This position works during the summer season located at one of four Boise Parks and Recreation's outdoor pool facilities.

  Assists swim team head coach with summer recreation swim teams

  Is open to all applicants age 16 and older

  Must work a minimum of 20 hrs per week

  Must be available to work mornings and evenings

  Hiring positions for outdoor city pools:

  Borah Pool

  Fairmont Pool

  Ivywild Pool

  Natatorium Pool and Hydrotube

  Essential Functions

  Coaches individual swimmers on various styles and racing techniques. Makes recommendations to swim team head coach for swimmers' needs, meet entries, or other duties. Attends all swim meets including Championship meet. (100%)

  Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time. Total Percentage = 100%

  Requirements

  Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  Level of Knowledge

  Knowledge of competitive swimming skills and techniques.

  Abilities

  Ability to work evenings and weekends; interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

  Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  One year of experience coaching a swim program.

  Current Lifeguard Certification.

  American Red Cross First Aid & CPR Certification.

  Special Requirements

  Applicants must be able to pass:

  City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process RegulationDrug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.

  This position is required to perform emergency medical, lifesaving, and/or fire suppression activities.

  Physical Efforts

  The noise level is frequently moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will stand, walk, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

  Working Environment

  The work environment will include outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals.

  This position works: Must work evenings and weekends.

  19-Hour Temporary

  All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.

  4-Month Temporary

  All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.

  8-Month Seasonal

  In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.

  9-Month Temporary

  In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
