About the Department
TheDepartment of Psychology (https://chss.wwu.edu/psychology) has 32 permanent full-time faculty. In addition to our graduate program in Counseling and undergraduate B.S. psychology major, the Psychology department offers an undergraduate degree in behavioral neuroscience and a master’s programs in experimental psychology. We are also home to the internationally recognizedCenter for Cross-Cultural Research (https://wp.wwu.edu/cccr/) .
The Counseling Program, withClinical Mental Health Counseling (https://chss.wwu.edu/psychology/clinical-mental-health-program) and School Counseling specialty areas, has been accredited by CACREP since 1993. Both are full-time, 2-year cohort-based programs which enjoy considerable institutional support. The mission of the Counseling Programs is to prepare knowledgeable, skilled, culturally sensitive, and ethical professional counselors who meet the relevant licensing or credentialing standards for practice in mental health and public and private educational settings in the State of Washington. We believe this is best accomplished in small rigorous programs in which students have substantive opportunities to practice their developing counseling skills under the supervision of faculty who are active contributors to the profession through research and service.

About the Position
The Western Washington University Department of Psychology invites applications for appointment to a 9-month tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Counselor Education with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
The successful candidate will be expected to supervise practicum students in our community-serving onsite training clinic and internship students in the community; teach core counseling courses (e.g., counseling skills and interventions, group counseling, crisis/addictions, assessment); teach an undergraduate psychology course in an area of expertise; conduct qualitative or quantitative research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and share findings; collaborate with colleagues and area agencies; and provide Counseling Program, Department, and University service.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. or ABD in Counselor Education at the time of application. Candidates appointed ABD must complete all degree requirements by June 15th of their first year of employment.
Demonstrated ability to successfully teach master’s level classes in the Counseling Program.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion of students from historically underrepresented backgrounds, through teaching, research, and mentorship.
Experience supervising graduate students in Practicum and/or Internship.
Licensed or License-eligible in Washington State (e.g., LPC, LMHC, LMFT, LCSW).
Active program of research and publication record commensurate with experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior employment as a clinical mental health counselor.
Experience coordinating Practicum and/or Internship experiences.
Experience with CACREP accreditation processes.
Capacity to mentor and teach undergraduate students in the Department of Psychology.

Salary
The starting salary range for assistant professor appointment, tenure-track is generally between $69,000 – $71,500, with placement within the position’s salary range being based on qualifications and professional experience. The entire salary range for the assistant professor position is $69,000 - $80,500, with the upper end of the salary range typically being achieved through collectively bargained salary adjustments.
Relocation assistance (https://policy.wwu.edu/POL-U5410.08-Providing-Relocation-Compensation) may be available per University guidelines. Salary and start-up funds are to be determined upon being offered the position.
