Job Description Summary:
This position provides legal support to administrators, faculty, and staff of The Texas A&M University System.
Responsibilities:
Provides legal advice and counsel to System clients in areas, including but not limited to: advising on employment actions and discipline, federal and state laws and regulations; interpreting System policies, regulations, and rules; developing and drafting policies and procedures; and developing well researched internal legal memorandums and opinions.- Advise clients on discrimination issues, including Title IX, disability, race and national origin discrimination, and other EEO matters.- Assists in the review and drafting of investigation reports, including but not limited to EEO-related matters.- Provides representation of and legal advice and counsel to System clients in judicial hearings and internal and external administrative hearings.
Serves as second chair to the assigned Assistant Attorney General litigation.- Participates in Office of General Counsel matters, including practice area assignments, workshops, briefing papers, legal memoranda, special initiatives, etc.- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:- B.A./B.S. plus an earned LLB or JD degree from an accredited law school.- Five years of related legal experience.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas or will seek a Texas law license through reciprocity within 12 months of hire date. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage a broad range of complex legal issues.
Availability to travel across state to System locations.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in labor and employment discrimination and/or general litigation is highly desired, preferably with higher education experience. Other Requirements:
