  University of Washington Recreation’s mission is to provide safe, accessible, and dynamic recreation experiences to engage students in growth and wellbeing.

  The Assistant Director for Facilities is responsible for Recreation’s building and grounds maintenance program, including the Intramural Activities (IMA) Building (with a pool and indoor climbing facility), Waterfront Activities Center and Docks, Golf Range, Shell House, six outdoor fields (approximately 20 acres), thirteen tennis courts, one outdoor basketball court, two outdoor sand volleyball courts, and one outdoor climbing rock. All facilities operate seven days per week. They supervise fifteen permanent classified staff members, and are responsible for establishing the policies, procedures, and methods necessary to ensure the success of the program, with safety and risk mitigation as a top priority. Establishing work timelines, monitoring the completion of maintenance work requests, and inspecting custodian work to ensure that the duties are fulfilled in accordance with department priorities are key components of the position.

  This position, Assistant Director for Facilities (Manager Of Program Operations (E S 8)), reports to the Associate Director for Facilities and Operations, serves on the department’s Extended Executive Team, and interacts with department staff on all initiatives related to the operational needs for Recreation.

  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  The following represents a variety of the responsibilities assigned to the person in this position. The examples represent typical work, but are not intended to be inclusive of all duties required for this position:

  Personnel

  Directly supervise fifteen full time custodial and maintenance staff. Provide functional leadership to all areas of supervision.

  Ensure employees have proper up-to-date University required trainings and program or area specific certifications.

  Direct employees and schedules to meet University and union employee requirements.Building and Grounds Maintenance

  Serve as the department liaison with outside contractors and UW Facilities to oversee and track building improvement or repair projects.

  Supervise maintenance of the IMA pool, including water quality testing, mechanical and electrical delivery systems required to meet county and state health and safety regulations.

  Maintain facility, grounds, and equipment inspection logs and online maintenance requests (MaintenanceCare and FSWorks) as part of the department’s Risk Management program. Review all for facility repair items and assign tasks to appropriate staff.

  Supervise grounds maintenance and field/court preparation for sports activities.Procurement and Budgeting

  Purchase and supervise maintenance of 500+ pieces of exercise equipment, including cardio and weight machines.

  Purchase custodial, maintenance, and pool supplies.

  Develop and prepare annual departmental maintenance and custodial budgets. Monitor and control expenditures and ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance.General

  Perform ongoing assessment of the Custodial and Maintenance programs to evaluate and analyze based on participation data, the department's mission and values, as well as the current business needs.

  Represent Recreation on Student Life and Campus-wide committees. Be an active member of the campus community, supporting students and colleagues.

  Work cooperatively with other members of the Rec staff in the interest of providing a comprehensive program of recreation activities designed to meet the needs of students and other members of the University community.

  Perform related duties as required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  Bachelor’s degree and four years of related experience. While a degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management or related field may be advantageous, demonstrated experience in building, sports turf, and grounds maintenance is important. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  Must demonstrate knowledge of swimming pool maintenance (CPO required), grounds keeping, sport court repair, custodian practices and cardio/strength equipment maintenance.

  Must maintain current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (Professional Rescuer).

  Possess interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and colleagues.

  Strong communication, organizational, and leadership/management skills. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  Master’s degree.

  Work experience in a college/university campus recreation department or community parks and recreation department.

  Ability and experience in using recreation based software and UW software programs (i.e. Fusion, Sling, Workday, SharePoint, IMLeagues, MaintenanceCare, WordPress, etc.).
