Kingsborough Community College was founded in 1963 and is one of 23 campuses of the City University of New York (CUNY) system and offers liberal arts education, as well as career training programs. Kingsborough has been named one of the leading community colleges in the country by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program. Kingsborough serves a widely diverse population of approximately 10,000 students and consistently ranks among the leading community colleges in the country in associate degrees awarded to minority students. Approximately 70% of Kingsborough’s students are enrolled in a liberal arts or science degree program; the rest pursue degrees in more specialized, career-oriented programs such as business, communications, criminal justice, culinary arts, nursing and allied health careers, information technology, journalism, maritime technology, tourism and hospitality, and the visual arts. The college is a leader in providing fully-online program options and takes pride in its many support programs that enhance student success. All students are offered individual, personal and academic counseling; workshops to improve basic skills; and career planning and placement. Under the direction of the Dean for Student Success Programs, the Assistant Dean for Advisement provides strategic and operational leadership in the development, assessment and delivery of innovative and holistic advisement services across the campus. SupervisingAccelerated Studies in Associates Program (ASAP), the Kingsborough Advisement Academies, Transfer Initiatives and CUNY Start/Math Start Program the Assistant Dean will ensure that operations of the areas are guided by the College’s Strategic Plan and Academic Master Plan.
In addition, but no limited to, the Assistant Dean will:
Ensure the integrity of the ASAP and CUNY Start/Math models through close collaboration with program director/coordinator and Central Program offices
Lead the process of developing a vision and mission across advisement areas. Develops resource and training guidelines and works collaboratively with the program directors and others to build an infrastructure that promotes regular reflection, assessment, and growth for advisors
Supervise the Transfer Manager and guide campus-wide efforts to prepare students for transfer to senior colleges
Develop, implement and assess utilization of across-the-board student support technologies, such as Navigate, across advising areas
Lead the adaptation of career exploration and transfer planning into the advisement processes
Collaborate with Enrollment Management in assessing and adjusting recruitment processes into special programs and onboarding of new students into the Advisement Academies
Ensure implementation and evaluation of new pedagogical approaches provided by the Central CUNY/Math Start Professional Development team
Work with Directors across Programs/Academies to identify advisor benchmarks and provide/coordinate professional development
Establish and maintain strong connections between academic departments and advisement areas ensuring collaboration and transparency
Lead the Advisement Council to share best practices across all advisement areas as well as retention/support areas including AccessAbility, TRIO, Veteran Services, and At-Risk Student efforts
Foster and sustain positive collaborative working relationships with colleagues in Academic Affairs and student support services: Career Services, Financial Aid, Bursar, Counseling, Admissions, Academies, Kingsborough Learning Center, etc.
Represent theDean for Students Success Programsat College, CUNY, and other external programs and university events/meetings, as needed
Participate in retention efforts across divisions
Serve on committees as requested
Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degreerequired; A doctorate or terminal degree preferred
Demonstrated administrative and supervisory experience with a record of increasing responsibility in higher education, preferably at a community college
Extensive background and proficiency in overseeing/coaching staff at the manager/director level, directing comprehensive advisement based on both holistic and caseload approaches. Utilizing data, providing guidance, and improving advisor performance to effectively support students in achieving academic success through graduation and beyond.
Strong understanding of lifelong learning and planning including incorporation of career exploration and transfer planning into advisement and support services
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills and anability to work in a multicultural environment
Demonstrated collegial style of leadership that will support staff in their efforts to provide an excellent academic environment
Expertise with student information systems such as CUNYfirst, Starfish/Navigate, and DegreeWorks.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$132,000- $142,000
