About APRN PA Pediatric Cardiology & Critical Care Fellowship

The Cleveland Clinic Children's Cardiology & Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship is an innovative 12-month program with a mission to safely transition Certified Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (CPNP-AC) and Physician Assistants (PA) to practice within the Pediatric and Adult Congenital Heart Center. This program provides a robust infrastructure to build not only clinical competency, but also role proficiency through mentorship, professional development, leadership training, and organizational enculturation. Fellows of the program will graduate with the critical thinking, diagnostic, and clinical skills necessary for the management of complex congenital heart disease, providing safe, efficient, and evidence-based care to critically ill patients in today's multi-disciplinary, team-based care model.

The 12-month, intensive training program provides the APP fellow with a comprehensive, structured transition into the fast-paced environment of Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care. Fellows begin with a boot camp to review and establish the fundamentals of practice. Each week includes protected didactic learning that includes case studies, lectures, and simulation, all with an emphasis on applying evidenced based medicine. The APP in the Fellow role reflects the mission, vision, and values of Cleveland Clinic, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all regulatory and accreditation standards.

Throughout their training, Fellows are supervised and developed by department APP's and physician experts in each care area. Each fellow receives instruction and mentoring in professional development including a structured, 1 on 1 experience of either development and delivery of APP education or completion of a quality project, with the option to submit an abstract or peer reviewed article to a national society. Upon completion of this program, the Fellow will be a highly skilled and capable APP in the field of Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Medicine.
