Description: This position is responsible for providing the husbandry care of mice, rats and other lab animals.

　　Animal Husbandry Duties:

　　Observing the physical condition of mice, rats and other lab animals for signs of disease or illness

　　Checking food and water levels for each animal. Adding more if needed.

　　Ensuring animals are housed in an environment that meets institution and department standards for cleanliness.

　　Document daily room check sheets

　　Performing weekly or bi-weekly change outs.

　　House (new) incoming animals

　　Perform humane euthanasia of small animals

　　Clean and sterilize rooms

　　Cage Wash Duties:

　　Dumping and scraping dirty bedding material out of soil caging

　　Operating cage washers, autoclaves and bedding disposal equipment

　　Clean and sterilize rooms

　　Maintain environmental data log

　　Assembling clean caging to be used in animal rooms for change outs

　　Operating bedding dispensing equipment.

　　Other Duties:

　　Maintain equipment and supplies for animal rooms and cage wash areas

　　Participate in department, college and company events, meetings and projects

　　It is a very physically demanding position and requires employees to be on their feet most of the day.

　　Shift: Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm (with rotating weekends)

　　Qualifications:

　　Minimum HS Diploma

　　**Preference towards candidates with AA/AS in Veterinary Technology, BS in Animal Science, Vet Assistant certificate, or related

　　6+ months of experience within animal care (husbandry, animal handling, etc.)

　　Must be comfortable working in preclinical research
