Job Opportunity: Animal Care Technician
Location: West Lafayette, Indiana
Description:
Summary:
• Provides professional husbandry and care to a variety of laboratory animals including but not limited to rodents, rabbits, sheep, swine, horses, cows, and poultry in conventional, barrier, and barn housing.
• Performs husbandry and health checks for all species on campus as well as any new species that arrive for future studies.
• Changes cages/cleans stalls, wash, autoclave and prepare animal caging components for use in the animal facilities.
• Uses specialized equipment (including rack washer, bulk autoclave, steam gun, skid steer).
• Works with animals exposed to biological, chemical and radiation hazards.
• Performs other cleaning and maintenance duties as necessary.
• Occasional euthanasia of rodents.
• Performs breeding services as needed and approved.
• Begins learning more advanced technical skills to support researchers and Gnotobiotics.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Must Have Skills:
1) High school diploma or equivalent required.
2) Six months relevant large animal care experience.
3) Must be able to have indirect and direct physical contact with multiple species of animals.
4) This position requires the ability to move about for long periods of time, perform repetitive movements, and operate equipment, tools, or controls. It also requires the ability to move items weighing up to 40 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential duties with or without an accommodation.
