  General Statement

  Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenured level instruction and/or related functions. Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in pool for two (2) years. After two (2) years, candidates need to re-submit materials for continued consideration.

  The department or program search committees or hiring authority will review and evaluate the submitted application materials. Applicants will be notified if their application is being retained in the non-tenure track faculty hiring pool.

  Appointments are on a part-time basis and vary in duration, a couple weeks, a semester or an academic year, depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on number of courses taught and duration.

  We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.

  Duties and Responsibilities

  We hope to attract applicants who can teach in a diverse University community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed.

  Teaching on-campus or online courses.

  Advising, evaluating and assisting students.

  Participating in weekly faculty meetings.

  Meeting regularly with, collaborating with, and evaluating peer leader, if one is assigned to your section.

  Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  Bachelor’s Degree in the field relevant to instruction.

  Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  Advanced degree

  Prior teaching experience directly related to the position for which you are applying

  Demonstrated experience teaching interdisciplinary courses

  Demonstrated knowledge of college student development

  Promote the advancement of diversity. OR Demonstrated commitment to student, faculty, and staff diversity.

  The position for which you have applied MAY BE a Union position. Union affiliation is determined by job duties and the collective bargaining unit.

  Non-Tenure Track Faculty – Any position that is .5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University ( AFMSU ). Faculty covered by AFMSU may choose to pay membership dues. This is a condition of employment.   Any position less than .5 FTE is not represented by the Union and is not required to pay dues.

  The Program

  The Department

  The Department of Animal and Range Sciences is one of the largest departments in the College of Agriculture with a growing student enrollment that is presently 440 students. In addition to MS and PhD programs, we offer Bachelor of Science degrees in Animal Science (options include Livestock Management and Industry, Science, and Equine Science) and Natural Resources and Rangeland Ecology (options include Rangeland Ecology and Management and Wildlife Ecology and Management), and oversee the Dan Scott Ranch Management program and the Farrier School. We are a fully integrated department serving all three of the land grant missions of teaching, research, and extension. In addition, our program incorporates livestock operations into our teaching, research, and extension program.

  The College

  As the foundational component of Montana’s land grant university at Montana State University, the College of Agriculture ( COA ) and the Montana Agricultural Experiment Station ( MAES ) provide instruction in dynamic degree programs and conduct research relevant to the challenges in Montana’s agricultural and natural resource communities. We create opportunities for students, staff and faculty to excel through hands-on learning, to serve through campus and community engagement, to explore unique solutions to distinct and interesting questions and to connect Montanans with the global community through research discoveries and outreach. The COA offers eleven baccalaureate, nine masters, and four doctoral degree programs from five departments and one division. MAES conducts research through the Department of Research Centers (Corvallis, Conrad, Creston, Havre, Huntley, Moccasin, Sidney), in collaboration with other academic departments, near Bozeman, and throughout Montana.
