POSITION PROFILE
The position of AIX Systems Engineer is responsible for maintaining and implementing reliable, scalable and secure IBM AIX environments. The candidate must be a technical leader with solid operating system administration skills and the ability to maintain a positive attitude while working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will possess strong and broad AIX/UNIX Systems Administration and Systems Engineering experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform AIX Operating System/Software installations and/or upgrades as required.
Planning, design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex systems hardware and software problems.
Recommend AIX patching as required.
Analyze and diagnosis system failures – “root cause analysis”
Recover and restore operating systems and file systems.
Monitor system availability, load, and system capacity.
Identify requirements for upgrades in storage and/or processor capacity or system software releases.
Must be able to be part of an On call rotation for Incident Mgmt and other escalations.
Must be able to maintain current knowledge of industry trends and standards.
Requirements
5+ years IBM AIX/UNIX systems engineering experience required; specifically with AIX 6 and 7.
Implementation and support of IBM virtualization (VIOS, LPAR, etc) experience required.
Experience with the IBM Hardware Management Console (HMC) required.
Experience with server provisioning and patching using NIM required.
Experience with storage replication and disaster recovery planning.
Proficient in writing shell scripts (bash). Other shell scripting (K-shell, Perl, etc.) experience helpful.
Logical Volume management (LVM) and SAN (fiber/iSCSI) multi-pathing required.
Ability to set up bonding, LACP and VLAN Tagging on network interfaces preferred.
Experience in UNIX system tuning. Understanding of performance monitoring tools such as sar, vmstat, iostat, mpstat, etc.
Knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals, NFS, and iptables required.
Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to logically think through problem situations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to easily adapt to a rapidly changing work environment.

Must have professional demeanor and approach to working with customers

PREFERRED SKILLS
Knowledge of data center deployment concepts and procedures
Awareness of standard industry compliance procedures (PCI, SSAE-16, HIPAA, etc)
B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent formal training and experience.
Other UNIX experience (Solaris / HP-UX) a plus.
Linux experience (Red Hat, Ubuntu, SUSE, etc.) a plus.
Experience implementing and maintaining Linux/UNIX clusters, preferably IBM AIX HACMP.
Experience with the full LAMP stack experience (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) helpful but not required.
Familiarity with databases such as MySQL, Oracle, and DB2.
Familiarity with middleware and application servers such as Weblogic, WebSphere, MQ-Series, etc.
Troubleshooting experience in all layers of the OSI model.
Additional Notes:
Must have the ability to document processes and procedures for the operations staff to follow. Must be willing to work off hours (including holidays and weekends) in support of changes and upgrades as well as problem determination tasks.

Compensation: Salary for this position is commensurate with experience. Starting base salary is minimum 80K - 120K annually
