About Aerial Construction Technician

  Under moderate supervision, build, repair and maintain HFC (hybrid fiber coax) plant and FTTH plant (Fiber to the Home) Work on a crew to construct outside plant Aerial/UG network infrastructureTravel Requirement: 100%Reporting out of Columbus, OHActively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experiencePerform complex installations of cable in underground and/or overhead environments using most recent company specifications and industry standards.Prepare underground system plant for repairs; includes trenching, pot holing, backfill, and repair or replacement of conduits, poles, risers or pedestals.Perform investigation and repair of cut fiber optic cables or impairmentsDig trenches and fill ditches; bury cable; place cable in trenches and through conduit.Install equipment used to house HFC & FTTH equipment, ground plant, or place rod or wire to serve as ground for future installations.Work with other Construction Technicians, in-house Technicians, as well as third-party contractors in the performance of their duties.Perform traffic control and/or flagging as necessary.Load and unload cable equipment and tools.Read system prints and place cable according to prints.Calculate signal losses from all cable lines and devices, using signal level meter.Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.Know, understand and follow company policies.Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.Required Skills/Abilities and KnowledgeAbility to read, write and speak EnglishAbility to use the following hand tools electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdriversAbility to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including gaffs, ladders, and fully loaded tool beltsAbility to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as gaffs, safety harness and ladders) within the maximum weight limitations of that equipmentAbility to use personal computer and software applicationsAbility to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devicesAbility to carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approx. 32 ft high and 90 pounds)Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt as neededAbility to differentiate between different sizes, types and colors of wiresAbility to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twistingAbility to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position (e.g. signal level meters, ohm meters, etc.)Ability to perform job from high places (i.e. poles and roofs)Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the timeAbility to work with small components and wires to make cable connectionsAbility to use handheld communication devices and applicationsAbility to adhere to Local, Federal regulations and Company policiesAbility to dig in all types of soilAbility to drive Company vehicle in a safe and responsible mannerAbility to operate machinery used for underground/overhead cable installationAbility to prioritize and organize effectivelyAbility to read general system layouts from blueprintsAbility to work independently and on a crewKnowledge of traditional fiber architectures, Fiber Plant maintenanceKnowledge of Fusion splicers and related equipmentKnowledge of basic mathematics and electronicsKnowledge of company products and servicesKnowledge of National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code and OSHARequired EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalent work experienceValid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within company required standardsCommercial Driver License - Class AIndustry and vendor specific certifications and training (NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E) prefer
